Ex: I live 1 mile from an awesome small market with fresh produce, baked goods, amd staple grocery items. I could do at least 50% of my shopping there if only there was a safe sidewalk and crossing. Instead I have to get in my car

"Make cities better" may be the best direction for climate action in these grim times. 80% of Americans live in urban areas. Creating neighborhoods with reliable, frequent public transit, protected active transit, and dense, affordable housing could make US cities *so much better to live in* while..
Watching a panel on "urbanism as climate action." This is a huge, burgeoning field/idea/movement, but the desiccated boomer counsels who decide where climate funding goes are *clueless* about it and so it has to seek funding elsewhere.

The power of familiarity on the human brain is insane because Twitter went to complete shit years ago.

Also Exhibit #584 in the argument that the free market doesn’t regulate openly immoral and harmful businesses
For everyone who thinks I should leave Twitter this poll I just did there explains the problem. Bluesky remains unattractive to a big chunk of people.

On the theme of Indy hit & runs, a drunk driver just (1) took out a parking & stop sign, (2) smashed into a parked SUV, & (3) hit a tree in front of the Methodist Church. They somehow managed to turn left onto Guilford & drive off.

Security cop at the apt construction site didn't even snap a photo.

A+ breakdown of an ongoing disaster that we are not remotely close to solving.

Density is the long term answer, but the short term answer is vote against all of the people responsible and prepare for years of decline before improvement starts.

Pedestrians who are hit by SUVs are 44% more likely to be killed than if they were hit by a conventional car, new study finds. Children are 82% more likely to die when hit by an SUV than by a car. In children under 10, the risk of death was 130% higher.

Regulate vehicle size now.

Should pedestrians have to pass a test similar to a driving license to cross the street?
🚴‍♂️ Should cyclists have to pass a test similar to a driving license? 72% of the public would support cyclists having to pass a test of their proficiency before they can cycle on public roads - with car owners particularly likely to support the introducing of such tests.

America needs more candy bars to fix its food crisis
Not a single time in this article glorifying the need for sprawl to address the US's affordable housing crisis is there a mention of the vast transportation costs of sprawling living patterns. Nor is there mention of the fact that sprawl is directly linked to disinvestment in urban cores.
America Needs More Sprawl to Fix Its Housing Crisis
The word has become an epithet for garish, reckless growth — but to fix the housing crisis, the country needs more of it.
