I guess because it was after 10pm on a Friday, my Lime scooter app gave me a sobriety test tonight. Which is nice, I guess, but wouldn’t it be cool if we made cars do that instead?

These are the things I hope we’ll someday look back on with the same incredulity, from most to least likely:
-burning gas inside our homes
-driving giant vehicles everywhere with little meaningful restriction
-killing sentient animals for our taste preferences
I lived thru the end of public smoking. Early in my career I presented to city councils who were smoking, in front of audiences who were smoking.

Smoking in restaurants, airplanes, hospitals…

All of that seems insane now, but it was very controversial when we DID change it.

We CAN change things.
It’s crazy that people used to be able to just smoke cigarettes wherever they wanted

5 people have been killed on the roads in Metro Vancouver in the last week, including a driver, a cyclist, and 3 pedestrians, one of whom was a young child. Each of them had lives, families and friends, aspirations and potential that will not be realized. Each of them could have been me, or you.

Srinivas is a critical care physician looking after kids. The number of kids injured in car violence is too high. Awful to tell families. Especially hard because all these are preventable. Passing this would be a sign that this council cares about kids in this city.

Lime has finally expanded its scooter share program into my neighbourhood and I’m so excited! This might be my new fave way to get around. I took an extra kid to soccer practice today, so we took an Evo there. But since it was just me on the way home, I switched to a scooter. So fun and convenient!

Vancouver Council votes tomorrow on a motion to ban right turns on red at Vancouver’s most dangerous intersections. It would make things much safer for people walking, biking, and rolling — and the deadline to send comments or sign up to speak is in less than an hour. Send your comments now!

Rainway

Sketching something similar to the St. George rainway on Lakewood Street (next to Secord elementary) given the amount of traffic that flows through there while we’re biking to and from school… i’ve been imagining a Rainway running from the top of the hill all the way to Trout Lake.

Safety is important for scooter users but the biggest hazard is drivers. Any public safety messaging about road safety should lead with this fact, and public safety dollars should go toward automatic speed enforcement.

Money from fines used to build separated bike lanes.
E-Scooters are not toys, and there are rules and regulations regarding their use in North Vancouver. All parents and riders should refer to this helpful infographic from North Vancouver RCMP and help keep our kids and streets safe.
