Hugs universally y'all. Except for ICE and fascists.

We need more hugs. Fewer fascists.

Why is a NYS police officer parked illegally in the 10th Ave. bike lane where federal DEA jackboots always park? And why does he have a plate cover? And why is he such a reckless driver? Lots of questions. I'll get answers on Monday. But it's outrageous if NYS is loaning officers to DEA.

Funny / sad story, I was called last week by a board member of a state level bicycle advocacy org while they were driving home. I asked that they call another time when it was safe to do so - also stating that it was against my org's policy. They declined and kept on talking, putting folks at risk.

This Venezuela thing is a kidnapping, and the ransom is US oil industry access to their reserves and markets.

This is some robber baron type ish. So embarrassing internationally.

Just sent notes to both of my Indiana senators about the Venezuela attacks and extrajudicial kidnapping of a foreign leader being why they should be working on impeachment.

Sadly, I don't think they care. But we need to keep on being fired up, because elections still count in the US.

New Haven’s Doug Hausladen often says “I didn’t hear the question, but I know sidewalks are the answer.”

Sidewalks are both essential for mobility *and* and an asset, and cities should very obviously be in charge of building and maintaining them.

Who Should Pay to Fix the Sidewalk?
Denver has made sidewalk upkeep a public responsibility, becoming the largest US municipality to fund and maintain this critical but unsung pedestrian infrastructure.

“Car bloat”—increasingly oversized automobiles—worsens road safety, affordability and the environment.

Here are some of the stories I wrote in 2025 examining the trend and proposing solutions. 🧵

In @vox.com, I likened car bloat to secondhand smoke (which helped bring down the US tobacco industry).
Gigantic SUVs are a public health threat. Why don’t we treat them like one?
The anti-tobacco playbook could help turn the US public against their beloved oversized cars.

This uncle is unreasonably proud. On the niece's first visit to a sushi restaurant she insisted on using the chopsticks, and was better at it than many adults.

A good read about induced demand.
We don’t need to overthink induced demand to do something about it.

"Build for cars, and you’ll get more driving; build for transit or biking, and you’ll get more of those too."

Read my latest piece from SSTI.
We don’t need to overthink induced demand to act on it
The concept of induced demand is now widely recognized in transportation. But we often treat it as a technical modeling issue rather than a basic principle of how people respond to the world around th...

"A city analysis found 28 other gas stations in a 2-mile radius of the property."

Indy just approved a new gas station right there on a new bus rapid transit corridor. Ughh.
Eastsiders are getting a Wawa.

For months, there’s been debate about whether or not the city should approve zoning changes for the gas station. On Dec. 3, city officials have approved it: https://bit.ly/44QohQd
The eastside Wawa has been approved
The gas station is planned for the corner of Shortridge Avenue and Washington Street
