Absolutely right. They don't want to give up their salaries, perks, and privileged status ~ but too many of them also don't want to actually do the work that their constituents hired/elected them to do. They've had a complacent electorate for many years, and they've gotten used to coasting by.

It's rather easy for the MBTA to buy EMUs - Fairmount and Stoughton Line electrification is an easy project, and regional rail EMUs are the most commoditized kind of trainset in Europe, all it takes is a good RFP based on the RFPs anyone on this side of the Pond would write.

Extend it to Kingston and Providence, taking over the MBTA service south of Providence. Shorter trains, higher frequency (30-minute Takt), timed as much as possible with actual intercities at both end (running, naturally, on a bypass track via I-95).
Hope to one day see the CTrail Shore Line East service extended from New London, CT to Westerly, RI! There’s so much potential for this corridor! 🙏🏽🚆⚡️🌊
