Friday again! Perhaps this project really will make the time seem to go faster and get this 4 year presidency to feel finished faster. I realize that's a bit of a hallucination, which relates to my topic of AI here: finding-throughlines.ghost.io/avoiding-tec...
Avoiding Technologic Overreach: Humans, the Biosphere, and AI
I need to go outside. To remind myself of the sky. To admire clouds and trees, their shapes and surfaces, and to think about how they come to be. I need to walk. To feel my muscles moving in relation ...

I didn’t see what happened, but also whatever it was I’m fine with, unless it was illegal, in which case I have been bragging about doing illegal stuff and demanding that we do illegal stuff but i wasn’t involved with this particular illegal stuff, which we will be doing even more of in the future.
Q: So you didn't see any survivors after that first strike?

HEGSETH: I did not personally see survivors. The thing was on fire. This is called the fog of war. This is what you in the press don't understand. You sit in your air conditioned offices and plant fake stories in the Washington Post

Does anyone have that sharpie tool where we can name every one of the people smiling, nodding, or even standing silently as Trump unloads this racist attack?

Because I can see a future in which a lot of people will be saying, “I wasn’t there.”
Trump, continued: "What the Somalian people have done to Minnesota is not even believable. It’s not even believable. And a lot of it starts with the governor. A lot of it starts with Barack HUSSEIN Obama, because that’s when people started coming in... They want to kiss our country good night."

Imagine if just one of them said, "Mr. President, I came here to support a policy related to our industry. But I cannot stand here and listen to you denigrate people in this way. It's racist and it's wrong. If my shareholders disagree, they can have my resignation. But I cannot be part of this."

We’ve posted a lot lately about CDC denying reasonable accommodations to disabled employees -- e.g., telling a paraplegic person who normally teleworks to report to the office immediately or use leave.

Yes, that’s really happening.

Let’s talk a bit about why everyone should care.

AG's across the country need to know how their constituents feel. Too important to ignore. Your state?👇 Give 'em a call.

Such classic gaslighting it's an instructive moment. The question is not whether generic is better or worse, it's that a list with more expensive brand names is not the same as a list with cheaper generics. Perverting that truth into an attack on those calling it out is Manipulation 101.
Hassett: "On one of the Sunday shows, the anchor criticized the fact Walmart said the Thanksgiving dinner is cheaper by about $10. Then he said, 'Oh yeah, but they substituted generic stuff,' as if having a generic something is a crime for ordinary folks! It shows how out of touch these people are."

As she recounted
a disappointing dinner party
my work friend asked
if I knew the feeling
of being with people
(of being with good people)
but still just feeling
profoundly alone,
and as I adjusted my mask
I looked
at my friend’s bare face
and simply said:
I know the feeling.

Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

y'know, if tech companies weren't so fired up to call every single thing "AI" it would be a lot easier to distinguish "ML spam filter that is well-sandboxed and tuned on your emails" from "giant context and IP-eroding foundation model that makes people paranoid and unhappy"
since the "google is now training gemini on your email contents" thing keeps bumping around here: it's _not happening_. I say this not to defend google but because I know a lot of people that have broken their filtering and made their lives much more annoying from sheer misinformation.
The malwarebytes Google opting-your-emails-into-ai-training thing is not true. The post is based on one bad tweet.

I know anti-tech lamenting is a Bluesky core principle, but please use the same judgement you would for any other clickbait.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.
