Quirky 404 pages are a dying breed. Kudos to CUP for trying to keep the tradition alive. Mind you, I still haven't found the information I'm looking for, but at least they made me smile #AcademicChatter

OVER A MILLION USERS

DISCUSS SUICIDE WITH CHATGPT

EVERY *WEEK*

what the fuck are we DOING here
Panera’s moderately caffeinated lemonade was loosely associated with 2 deaths before it was taken off market.

This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAI’s own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.
I fully believe in the corporate death penalty and believe we would be a better world if OpenAI lost its corporate charter and was forcibly dissolved.

Here is an embarrassing graph I have just made for a report. Fun fact:

in 2020/21 Indian Railways added the equivalent of the UK’s *entire electrified railway network* (over 6000 route kilometers!) to their own electrified network - and then did this again in 2021/22

…and AGAIN in 2022/23! 🤯

PLEASE don’t reply to this map going “what about that line / that city?”

Doing so gives the map more credit than it deserves. There’s no coherence to this at all.

If you spend time analysing it you’re doing more thinking than the people who made it did.
Also this map may as well be someone scrawling with a pencil

A big chunk of Madrid - Paris is done already, and some of the lines that are supposedly done are not. Hell knows what this is supposed to explain.

Hard to believe these days, but there was once a time when the US government led the debate on how to combat climate change and improve environmental quality.
60 yrs ago today (Nov 5, 1965), the 1st US government report to warn about climate change was published.
"Restoring the Quality of Our Environment" included warning of C02 build-up and sea-level rise/melting ice-caps.

In their 2025 report on #ClimateChange, @thelancet.com finds that millions of people are already dying every year from the causes & effects of climate change.

In the past decade, an average 546,000 people have died per year from increased heat alone — roughly one person every minute.

I have so much respect for climate modelers, not only for their precision but for their mental resilience putting these super frightening numbers out there.

I’m not sure many realize the radicalization of its youth wing, which has close links to the i//dentit. mov which just held a pan-European meeting here to discuss “re//mig"
