For my sins, I finally got around to reading the Countess’s new anti-immigration policy document and it’s as misinformed and badly written as you’d expect but the funniest part is when it says we should limit migration from countries that don’t respect “LGBT rights” #speirghorm

A reminder that 90% of Ireland's so-called 'forests' are industrial plantations, virtually empty of nature.

It doesn't have to be like this: with a bit of thought, we could satisfy our timber needs AND have huge tracts of natural forest ecosystems, bursting with life.

Important end-of-the-year article on government priorities: fight tooth and nail to defend nature-killing activities like the nitrates derogation, do next to nothing to support nature protection or restoration.

The result?

Species and ecosystems continue to plummet.

As a rainforest forms naturally all around this boulder, so do the more sheltered, humid conditions allow a rich bed of mosses and other plants to recolonise.

Continual nature loss is not inevitable: the reverse is equally possible.

O'Callaghan and Fianna Fáil are aligning themselves with the absolute worst people and politics in Europe, and journalists need to start asking them about it.
To date, I have seen little evidence that Irish media is prepared to meet this moment, and I fear the worst.
Liam Herrick: Why has Ireland abruptly decided the European Convention on Human Rights goes too far?
Precedent could have far-reaching consequences. Who is to say the rights of gay citizens won’t be the next target by a coalition of hostile states?

Sprat are small members of the herring family, and are the basis of whole marine ecosystems. Yet they're being hoovered up by pair-trawlers to feed fish farms.

Please sign our petition calling for a pause on sprat trawling until we have more data.

Thank you!

These two stories are somehow connected. Apparently, if you lobby tirelessly for more pollution & ecological wreckage, that’s exactly what you get.

Time after time, these tribunals are uncovering the abuse of trans people by 'figureheads' backed by far-right & anti-gender movements. Often these cases are based on dodgy funding, fabrication, prejudice, hate, and the egos of deluded zealots determined to eradicate a marginalised group.

So it seems the claim of 30% increase in judicial review in 2025 was based on the number to 26 June & *a guess* at a number for July to Dec (which wasn’t fact checked & is wrong)

.. & that erroneous claim is the entire justification for govt plan to limit access to the courts #Speirgorm #Planning

The truth?

The Irish public doesn't WANT their national rivers and lakes turned into stinking, dying, cesspools for profit by a particular commercial sector, that also happens to be very heavily subsidised by people's taxes.

Yet that's what this government continues to push for.
A new Ireland Thinks poll, commissioned by An Taisce, reveals Irish public appear at odds with Government’s application for a derogation from EU Nitrates Directive.

It comes days before a crucial EU vote on the derogation expected on December 9th.
