A couple years ago the handle on my dishwasher broke. I didn’t wanna deal with a warranty claim so I just modeled and printed a new one.

Today someone else’s dishwasher broke in the same way, and they found my model and fixed theirs too. Five stars and a kind comment.

I feel so proud and grateful!

Local-first thought: I think folks mix up server-as-authority with server-as-sync-peer and discussions get into trouble fast when people with different ideas both call that "server."

Totally possible to build a local-first app that only talks to a single server. P2P is hard!

Looks like I need to learn OpenSCAD to make the part I need for this project. 😅

(It’s just customizing a Gridfinity bin but I can’t seem to get OpenSCAD to export a file that I can import into another CAD package. Might just be the source project though.)

what an AMAZING FACT
My most conservative opinion? That we should go back to the old name for the common kestrel.

ORCAS eat MOOSE?

that IS a fun fact
Fun (terrifying) fact: Moose are so gigantic, they don’t have any predators…except for orcas. In winter/scare months, moose will dive for vegetation and orcas will eat them!

QANON CULTIST IN 2017: "In this 1,879 page thread I will unravel the byzantine system of codewords and phrases the global elite use to mask their pedophile cabal."

JEFFREY EPSTEIN WRITING AN EMAIL AT THE SAME TIME: "helo its me jeff had fun cmmitting sex crimes wit u lst weeknd"
pretty funny in retrospect that QAnon hinged on the idea that powerful elites at the highest levels of government were smart enough to talk in code when sending emails to each other about their despicable crimes

I got a Bambu printer to replace my 10-year-old Lulzbot Mini. Big improvement! Here's something funny, though: it sings when it starts and finishes a print. I wondered how that was set, and it turns out that the tune is embedded in the g-code!

Gut check: non-sleep deep rest seems interesting, but the term seems to be mostly used by nervous system bros who want to sell me nootropics. Is there another term I should be looking up for this? Has anyone I know here tried this and seen good results?

I've been re-reading the 2015 edition of The Design of Everyday Things. One interesting thing he mentions right away is that after he introduced "affordance" as a term, everybody started misusing it. We've been mixing "affordance" and "signifier" in his terms. Getting clear on the two is neat.

Accidentally did a little experiment. These four blocks were started the same day, but one bucket started in the full-strength nutrients and the other stayed in just water until today. Can you tell which?
