I really have to wonder where Trump supporters will turn once he is no longer relevant.

I have to imagine that at some point, he will either die or become disabled to the point where his political career will be over.

There is nobody who can capture Trump's base like Trump himself. Nobody close.

When the Republicans say that we live in a Banana Republic, do they realize that the behavior they displayed in hearing today is exactly what makes us look like one?

We are no longer governed by adults. The Republicans are petulant children with no direction.

Our democracy is in big trouble.

Call the charges whatever you'd like. Trump broke the law, now he is going to pay a price for it.

Remember this DONNIE??? — First Prez convicted of a Felony in history...
At a Reno, Nevada campaign rally in 2016, Donald Trump said of Hillary Clinton, “We could very well have a sitting president under felony indictment and ultimately a criminal trial. It would grind government to a halt.”

If you don't truly understand how this election could be the difference between Democracy enduring or eroding under the dictatorship of a madman.

Even if Biden wins, our Supreme Court is compromised, half of Congress will continue to lie to the American people, and Trump WILL question the results.

When the left fights for free speech, it is for positivity and love, but when the right fights for free speech, it is for hateful, derogatory, and insulting speech.

To me, free speech means no restrictions, but be responsible in what you say.

It just says a lot about each side.

The bigger issue is that he also stands accused of knowingly leaking classified information.

It's not clear that it would be responsible of Biden to share anything with him, although there are obviously consequences if he does not.
It just hit me: if you are a felon, you simply cannot get a security clearance. Will Trump, as the nominee of his party, get Intel briefings? His will that work?
If you do not punish leaders for breaking the law, the law means nothing.

As I’ve said before, i am not in favor of Trump doing jail time—bc of purely nat-sec concerns—but commuting his jail time sentence to a house arrest w/ an ankle monitor, limited visitations, etc, i am all in favor of that.

The question is, When do Trump supporters finally reach their bottom?

Will he take them all the way to poison pill?

Or will they see his true colors and jump ship?

Who will they replace him with?

He will eventually die and be forgotten.

before i go to bed i just remembered that trump said he didn’t testify because they would charge him with perjury if he said “it was a sunny day” and it turned out it rained. like, a) why would he say it was sunny if it wasn’t? and b) how was that going to come up in cross-examination?

I just want to encourage people to stop using the word "alleged". Donald Trump IS a proven sexual predator, business cheat, tax cheat, marital cheat, thief, and liar. And those are just the small crimes: wait until he's a proven insurrectionist and traitor.

49% of Independents and 15% of Republicans said Trump should end his campaign because of the conviction."
Poll: 49% of Independents think Trump should drop out post-guilty verdict

IANAL but I think the president not commenting in depth on a criminal case before sentencing is good, and Joe Biden is doing a good job, generally.

From a strategy: I think it is best if others (PACs, other dems, and media) “go low” while he “goes high”.

Maybe (Harris) go hard after sentencing.

If I were a Democratic pollster, I would be doing daily polling on: "Should Donald Trump drop out of the race in light of his conviction on 34 felonies?"

I see this as a way to shift the Overton Window.

The first poll I saw on that question has 49% of Independents saying Trump should drop out now.

I agree, it's really time to take the gloves off. If Republicans are going to attack the justice system, Dems need to exploit it for everything it's worth.

A special emergency edition. Democrats need to join the fight over the Trump verdict, in earnest, as vigorously as Republicans have joined it, and they need to do it now.
Democrats Need To Join The Fight Over The Trump Verdict Now
Their unfathomable stumbling in response to Trump's felony conviction has been an aha! moment for many liberals, and creates an opportunity to set the party straight.

Billionaires aren’t just supporting Trump for the tax cuts.

As Peter Thiel once admitted: “I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible.”

Make no mistake: The goal of American oligarchy is to tear down democracy itself.

There is no question about it: Alito, Thomas, Roberts, and the three Trump Supreme Court appointees are all Republican partisan hacks.

Pass term limits. Expand the court. Enact an enforceable code of ethics.

Dems must do this the moment they gain back control of Congress.
