they are vaccine deniers tbh
CDC committee members, some of whom are vaccine skeptics, are likely to recommend restricting the use of hepatitis B shots at birth or delaying them. The vaccine is credited by public health experts with nearly eliminating maternal transmission of the disease in the U.S.

I want our young people to know that there is a path forward, that a better world is possible. I don't want them to give up, to become cynical. They deserve to be young and full of optimism. They are owed a world that supports and sustains optimism.

Feel like I’m going insane with the revisionist history that Charlie Kirk fostered open debate. He chilled speech and his targeting of professors for wrongthink led to threats, harassment, and being forced out of their jobs. His legacy is chilling speech right now, about him

Exclusive: RFK Jr. and the White House buried a major study on alcohol and cancer. Here’s what it shows.
Kennedy wants to “Make America Healthy Again” — but doesn’t want you to see a report that could do just that.

Vaccines are battle training for your immune system. If you could give it intel on the enemy, why would you withhold that? Give me ALL the vaccines! I want to be prepared for everything!
As a guy who got a cancer that was probably caused by a virus, I think we should have /more/ vaccines.

The serum creatinine level is a concentration, amount per volume.

If you quickly expand plasma volume by 20%, the Cr will decrease by ~20%, saying nothing of GFR.

Same goes for ALT, WBC, CRP, and other values that we trend and sometimes overinterpret small fluctuations of.

This is an actual exchange from a VP who took an oath to defend the constitution and, as a citizen, is expected to abide by the law.

May we one day have accountability for the grotesque lawlessness of this regime.

Twitter and now Bluesky have given prominence to academics and others with credentials and expertise whose views are more power-challenging/power-balancing/left than the Times editorial/Democratic leadership/other center-left power centers. That's the tension here.
A platform where Jamelle Bouie is one of the most influential and respected people is one that is going to cause discomfort for a certain kind of liberal (or person who thinks they are liberal). Yes, Bouie is black, but what these people really reject is strong criticism of America's status quo.

EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS infuriating, deplorable account of what one trans woman in the U.K. has gone through as a result of the country's shifting laws (particularly as they have moved toward explicit hatred this year).

Just read it. My God.
I want to explain a few things and then it might be clearer why UK trans people are upset.
In 2001 I married my wife, Sylvia.
In 2005 I started medical transition. (1/13)

Israel's massacre of Palestinian journalists has been unconscionable.

And the silence of western journalists has been an utter abomination to our profession. And to humanity.

This is the way. Stop trying to go back to "normal." Normal sucked and it led to now.

This is an opportunity to rethink our society and structure our world around humans and nature instead of money.
I say this a lot, but it bears repeating: when Trump tears down mediocre institutions, we will replace them with radical institutions. Our vision of government was constrained by norms. If those norms are gone? Fine, those norms are gone, and with them the constraints are gone. LFG.

i think that in practice the biden hope was that, by "going back" to the "status quo," that the "fever would break" of its own accord--without the liberals really having to take active, decisive measures to make it happen

the parallels with ukraine policy and maga prosecutions are *deep*
Also on reflection Biden talked a lot about it, how the new global ideological conflict is authoritarianism vs democracy, but he didn't really follow through on it because he was fundamentally not really an internationalist

Its what they did with trans medicine. How many words did they write and they found no notable harm, no fraud, no lying or conspiracy. Just "doubts" and "concerns" from cherry-picked voices. The aesthetics of scandal but no scandal.

This may be transgender people’s only route to update their passports for potentially up to 10 years with a correct gender marker. There is no telling how long the window will be open.

IMO the best way will be to have an upcoming trip to Canada or Mexico and apply in person at an office.
1. Good news for trans people: I have independently confirmed that the Trump admin is now processing passport updates in compliance with a court order.

Multiple trans people have gotten their gender markers updated.

There are important caveats though, read on.

Tilson sits at a whopping .8%.
