Amazon has come to the state’s eastern farmland, worsening a water pollution problem that’s been linked to cancer and miscarriages.

Everyone’s grown so used to abortion bans and most experiences are out of sight and out of mind, but they’re terrible. Every day I interact with people who have been degraded and abandoned. Not sleeping, suffering. Handing me their last dollar. Driving for hours. Sick.

Everyone I knew who covered disinformation got laid off, their bosses got bullied into firing them, or they changed their beats from actual Nazi harassment campaigns. It cannot be stressed the damage the paid-for Substack “free speech” guys did in the service of fascism and against real free speech.
i've been trying to see what the right wing platforms (even outside of X) are showing people regarding the protests in LA and i am not sure it can be overstated just how much the AI slop is being used to reinforce the idea that downtown is a post-apocalyptic war zone

The CDC's cruise ship inspectors have been laid off, as well as agency's head epidemiologist for investigating cruise ship outbreaks

That baffled health officials since this program is paid for by cruise ship fees, not taxpayer dollars

CDC's cruise ship inspectors laid off amid bad year for outbreaks
The steep cuts to the cruise ship inspection team baffled officials in the program, which is not paid for by taxpayer dollars.

It’s obscene how much valuable time we’re losing in actually resisting creeping oligarchical authoritarianism with politicians, pundits, and people continually asking “what in the hell are these people doing?!” when it is abundantly clear and transparent what they are doing.

I'm genuinely disheartened by the lack of reviews/coverage for "Eyes on the Prize III," which premieres on HBO tonight.

Sigh. This is, I guess, a "me" problem. But nothing you could watch this week is better.

Anyway... ICYMI, my review:
‘Eyes on the Prize III: We Who Believe in Freedom Cannot Rest 1977-2015’ Review: Landmark Docuseries Remains Essential Viewing in New HBO Chapter
The Million Man March, the birth of Black Lives Matter, urban renewal projects in the Bronx and the aftermath of the Los Angeles Uprising get spotlights in the six-parter.

Just got fired from being a freshman football coach, if you want to know what MAGA does to communities.

They don’t care about what helps people, because the school is certainly not going to find an ex-NFL player willing to coach there at that level, they only care about trying to hurt people.

If you know anyone on the US military, I hope you’re talking to them about the oath they took to the constitution and what they plan to do when they get ordered to break their oath.

if the president can say “i don’t like the department of energy,” and within a week it’s closed, then the constitution means nothing, and the president’s entire claim to power is the loyalty of the military. either he is constrained by the constitution or he’s a dictator, there isn’t a middle ground

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.

I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

I’m just going to keep yelling it.
Fascism and the epistemic crisis are inextricably linked. The ongoing and accelerating attack on collective sense making is a facet not a bug of the current fascist onslaught.

“Charging prisoners for bottled water” is another phrase, like “school lunch debt,” that you can only understand if you speak capitalist hellscape.
