Few things highlight the importance of succession planning as well as Nancy Pelosi being replaced by Hakeem Jeffries.

Build your bench or else. 😅

What are we gonna use, harsh language?
1. We need to fight hard for a good ACA extension early in December and hold Republicans fiercely accountable if they betray everyone.

If this were true it would mean that he is no longer in control of his caucus and needs to resign.

But it is not true.

I know we're all mad, but you have to admit that it's an astounding coincidence that the only Dem defectors are those not seeking reflection next year. And Dem leadership was powerless to stop them! Wow! What are the odds? The world is full of wonders and mysteries.

Dear Maine,

Why do you inflict your senators on the rest of us? What did we do to deserve this? Have you considered ever electing one that doesn't suck?

I’ll take any good news I can get this morning, and this is unalloyed good news.

I think it is increasingly obvious that federal workers in the beltway + inconveniences at airports were the determinants of this shutdown. You can try to spin 5D logic on this but ultimately it was the dems willing to sellout everyone else for that.

Schumer said the Dems will "keep fighting". Keep fighting their own voters? Keep fighting off effectiveness? Keep fighting being held accountable for anything? As far as I can tell the Democratic leadership is good at one thing only now, which is sending fundraising messages to my phone.

Another species no longer on the global Endangered list:
Humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae).

A few decades after a Star Trek movie where the central conflict was the total extinction of the humpback, their numbers are rising fast enough to put them at "Least Concern" on the IUCN Red List.

agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

if you genuinely think Schumer and Democratic leadership opposed this & Republicans coincidentally got exactly the number of votes they needed to avoid a filibuster and none of those votes are from Democratic Senators who are up for reelection in the midterms next year, I have a bridge to sell you.

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

Wow, stunning coincidence that no one facing a primary in less than three years was the public face of this! This definitely represents those eight senators being bad people and they definitely weren’t picked to give cover to leadership that was worried about their holiday flights getting cancelled.

Aha, the fucker’s DC line takes messages. Light ‘em up.
If you wanna call Schumer, it's 202-224-6542
- Option 3
- Hit any key to leave a message
Asking anyone who's got energy to do so to call their Dem Senators and urge them not to back down on healthcare. 🙏

Your friends who are too sick to work to access healthcare are going to be really fucked otherwise. Being too sick to work means no paycheck to cover now-exorbitant marketplace plans.

Following up on this. This remains a ‘cave is minutes or hours away’ situation. If you want to impact how this plays out you need to contact senators literally now. I want to add additional points of context. What I’m relaying is what I’ve picked up from highly reliable sources.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.
