This may well be a me thing but it felt like a pastiche of early Tarantino in the worst way: True Romance without the charm. And then of course the Kevin Spacey factor.

Has any genre filmmaker wunderkind fallen off as hard as Edgar Wright? Hot Fuzz is the best action comedy ever made, but the seams were showing by World’s End, and Baby Driver was one of the most rancidly unpleasant films I’ve ever seen in the theater: his name now inspires caution not enthusiasm.

Well, sadly these days I do think about continuity in regard to Bond, but it’s always in the context of “everything that didn’t work about the Daniel Craig era despite having the best actor ever to play the part.” :(

(IMO the “solution” is to blithely ignore it all: any notion that this was a series with “continuity” would have been a shock to Cubby Broccoli, and stopped making sense even as a possibility when the Soviet Union fell. Bond is alive because you’re making a James Bond film: don’t overthink this.)

There’s a line in OHMSS where Bond says roughly “this never happened to the other guy” but it’s clearly meant as a winking 4th-wall break to acknowledge that they cast an unknown to take over from Connery. Fans built the “Bond is a codename” theory on top of it, but there’s not much there.
