An old Edgmond custom was known as 'Ringing the Dead home'. This involved chiming the church bells continually, instead of the usual sombre tones. The bells stopped when the coffin reached the lych gate. It was thought proper to welcome the dead to their new home. 🪦

The author was a friend and colleague of Einstein and a distinguished physicist in his own right, who knew many of the principal players. 🧪
