Security Data Nerd at Bitsight. Love me a good latent variable statistical model. Constantly balancing aesthetics vs usefulness in data viz.

Trying to combat cyber FUD.
There needs to be some equivalent to the School Board that can declare Internet Snow Days. Give the folks at the big service providers time and space to fix stuff, and the rest of us just get an unscheduled day off.

Jerry and Don were the best. This moment, "Here comes the peetzer", Poncho play by play, Jerry's tooth. The best baseball, not baseball moments.

Don's giggle is the platonic ideal of an infectious laugh. Miss Jerry and will never forgive NESN for deciding not to renew Don Orsillo's contract.
Nick Markakis may not be a Hall of Famer in real life but he will always be a Hall of Famer in my heart for the time he took strike one

god I miss Remy and Orsillo

OG Japanese Iron Chef for entertainment.

Good Eats for actual information. @altonbrown.bsky.social inspired so much of my cooking.

I have fond memories of Galloping Gourmet with Graham Kerr.

Bourdain's first show, A Cook's Tour, made me start thinking more deeply about food and culture.
What are your all-time favorite cooking shows?

My goto is to ask LLMs how many states have R in their name. They always fail. GPT 5 included Indiana, Illinois, and Texas in its list. It then asked me if I wanted an alphabetical highlighted map. Sure, why not.

I don't know why this is labeled as "opinion". These are all facts. Except for 29, sklearn-style APIs are bad, actually.
One like, one stats/data science/polmeth opinion.

I wonder about causality. Were they always mid or did breaking containment make them mid? In-N-Out was always mid IMO, with the containment break being due to the cutesy secret menu shit.

I pray that my beloved Blake's Lotaburger does not break containment so as to become mid, or maligned as such.
Unironically we need more fights about generic food like yesterday’s cola situation which is why I’m going to start one right now:

Whataburger is Texas In-N-Out (a regional fav that has broken containment but is actually mids, and not even the loud kind of mids)

This @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social video is absolutely INCREDIBLE. The numbers he cites, the strategy and results they produced — it’s the future. When have you heard *any* campaign talk about this, ever? (Video split in 2 to fit in Bluesky’s limits)

The electoral quants are 100 times more intellectually honest than Lichtman, don't get me wrong. But at some point the basic dynamic really feels like "The model can't be failed, it can only be failed" and then bits and bobs and exceptions and new epicycles are added endlessly to make it work.
