The Alaska Earthquake Center has long provided NOAA with seismic data for tsunami monitoring and warning purposes. That work will wind down in November, after the federal agency said it can no longer fund the contract.

The Heritage Foundation’s Bob Peters now recommends that if the US cannot develop the ability to conduct an underground nuclear test in Nevada within 3-6 months of an order to do so, it consider withdrawing from the 1962 Limited Test Ban Treaty and resuming open-air testing in Nevada or the Pacific.

I can totally identify with this feeling. But what the poll misses is that there are no jobs across the world for these 75%. Sure Nobel winners and super top researchers will be poached. But for the majority if they chose to leave, it will mean doing a non research job somewhere else
