GOP. Congress. ‘Nuff said
An embarrassingly obvious point, but...

This. Is. Illegal.

If anything like the rule of law were in force, Trump couldn't arbitrarily increase a tariff because he is annoyed.

In important and increasing ways, the rule of law in the US no longer exists.

Trump says he’s increasing tariffs on Canada by 10% after Ontario’s Reagan ad | CNN Business

Hillary Clinton referred to SOME Trump supporters as”deplorable,” and the political media had a meltdown. Trump refers to all Democrats as anti-American radical communists and “the enemy within,” and it’s no big deal. His reckless and dangerous demonization has been fully normalized.

It sounds conspiratorial to suggest that Vladimir Putin told Donald Trump behind closed doors to launch an assault on mail-in voting in elections administered by the states, and Trump immediately set about mobilizing federal power to do it… but that is literally Trump’s account of what happened.

Oh, yes. We should absolutely all pay more imports from Brazil because Trump feels such brotherhood for coup plotters and other criminals like him.

The US Constitution does not allow a president to do this.
We are in new territory with Trump’s latest trade letter, threatening a 50% tariff on imports from Brazil starting Aug. 1
—The US runs a rare trade surplus with Brazil, so there’s no deficit to fix
—Trump says these duties are explicitly over political concerns, not economic ones

I encourage everyone to read this letter.

Please then realize the president is imposing a tax on American consumers to leverage a foreign nation into making a domestic political decision that will help one of his political allies.

Thinking about this some more, basically the only path to maintaining something like constitutional continuity is for Trump to be impeached, convicted, and removed sometime will before the end of his term, right?
I'm still not sure what kind of continuity can be had amidst all this, and tbh I'm kind of hoping we get a bit of an appetite for radical constitutional reform going

But... yeah. It's interesting.

Donald Trump has disgraced the United States of America in countless ways since he first entered political life ten years ago.

But he had never disgraced the nation as badly as he did today.

He has brought shame on this country to an extent I had never thought possible. And he has only just begun.

With the possible exception of Maddow, I’m boycotting the rest of NBC and MSNBC.
On her show just now, Rachel Maddow said of Joy Reid's show being cancelled: "I think it is a bad mistake to let her walk out the door." She adds it is "unnerving" to see the network's decision to cancel shows hosted by nonwhite anchors: "That feels indefensible."

You’ve got it wrong, NBC. The Republicans simply decided to care more about their careers than whether other Americans die.
