The Republican president is a pedophile who has doubled my healthcare costs and let scores of violent criminals out of jail. But a Democratic mayor-elect wants to make busses free in a city I don't live in. I have never felt more politically homeless.

If I burn coal for 200+ years, colonise half the world and burn forests in the process, will I be called a 'climate leader' sometime in the future when I finally close my last coal plant? If I am Great Britain, then yes

Rosalind Franklin died at 37 of ovarian cancer attributed to radiation exposure from the methods she & her assistant used to photograph a cross-section of the DNA double helix.

Meanwhile, Watson won a Nobel off that work & survived to the ripe old age of 97 by simply: stealing those notes!

Boy Mamdani's race is really a vivid reminder that anti-Islamic bigotry is 100% accepted in US public discourse. People don't even bother dog whistling, it's just right out in the open.

I am hearing that on his deathbed Dick Cheney received the light of Islam and unhesitatingly recited the Shahada. Even now he looks down on the Ummah from the gardens of Jannah. Truly there is no god but Allah, and Mohammad is his prophet!

When white people react with hostility to sharing space with Black and brown folk, they don’t care if those folk were born here, migrated legally, or are “illegal aliens.” They only see non-white faces who “don’t belong in their space.” This is why “ordinary concern” about migration is basic racism.

You would think "avoiding billions in costs due to climate chaos" would count - it's a key driver of inflation *right now*, which I'm told is a big issue! - but through the magic of punditry, it doesn't count because it isn't "salient" or whatever the new excuse is
I think material politics mostly means doing material politics — let people use the straws and bags they prefer, don’t try to force people to buy electric cars, don’t make their electricity more expensive to hit net zero goals — advance policies that make people wealthier in material terms.
yes yes yes to all of this. material politics is the way forward and that doesn’t mean slogans it means the very difficult work of being a real presence in the lives of the people who you want to trust you.

The Python Software Foundation was recommended for a $1.5M grant from the National Science Foundation. The terms of the award said PSF could not work on DEI, whether or not the grant funding was used for it.

PSF therefore declined the funding.

Science suffers, but commitment to core values remains
TLDR; The PSF has made the decision to put our community and our shared diversity, equity, and inclusion values ahead of seeking $1.5M in new revenue. Please read and share. pyfound.blogspot.com/2025/10/NSF-...

By the way, identity politics are politics. Only some people seem not to understand this. They also misread Combahee because they don't take the intellectual work of Black women seriously. It's too bad for them because they'd be better for that engagement.
