I feel bad for all of us who have to be good at our jobs when the answer is to be sufficiently white, rich and powerful and then you can just drool on yourself and the press will be like “audiences intrigued by his unusual communication style”

"Carry this with you, for there is much worth noticing that often escapes the eye. Through it you can see everything from the tender moss in a sidewalk crack to the glow of the farthest star-and, most important of all, you can see things as they really are, not just as they seem to be.”

Honestly, some of the best times I have had with a book have been previous DNFs! Nothing, not even your opinion, has to be permanent.

Remembering today that having your heart broken is a necessary step on the path to becoming fully human. Whichever heartbreak is your first, it’s probably critical that a state break your heart so that you can develop a political imagination. If this is your first, I’m sorry and also welcome.

My son put it best when he was a young kid: "Cats are great because you get happy every time you encounter them. You turn a corner, and there's a cat there, and it's like there's a cat, and that's great."

I always think about it whenever I turn a corner and encounter a cat.

And, in the very room in which he sat, there were books that could take you anywhere, and things to invent, and make, and build, and break, and all the puzzle and excitement of everything he didn't know—music to play, songs to sing, and worlds to imagine and then someday make real.

"That's why," said Azaz, "there was one very important thing about your quest that we couldn't discuss until you returned."

"I remember," said Milo eagerly. "Tell me now."

"It was impossible," he said, looking at the Mathemagician.

"Completely impossible," said the Mathemagician, looking at Azaz.

Me: Gibson himself or is he writing—

Dream: Shut up. His gun is psychic.

Me: Objects can’t be—

Dream: Shut up. His job is to pull cryogenic sleepers out of deep space. His gun tells them whether they’re safe to wake up.

In place of the nothing there is me
And always was.
I could have flown sooner if only I had known.
The thing holding me back
Keeping me down
Damning my soul
was actually . . .
Nothing.

I missed out on the one necklace I REALLY wanted, but I got three other necklaces that I also wanted so I'm calling it a WIN!!

(They will pair well with the half dozen earrings I already own from this shop.)

Y'all. I might have an addiction.

From what I gathered from talking to him, and looking it up, they seem to believe that the devil lives among us (invisibly) on earth.

I was like “oh, Sympathy for the Devil-style”, but right now all I can think is “Ooo, baby, do you know what that’s worth? Ooo, Satan lives with us on earth!”

Anyway, all this to say that whenever I do something that I think, "Wow self, that was dumb. Why you do?" I instead say aloud, "You got freckles on your shoulder, bitch!" and have a good chuckle. The end.

A Wrinkle in Time. Taught me you don't have to be a grownup to do big things. Altered my teenage views on religion. Used big words and concepts and didn't write "down" to me. Just completely rocked my not-yet-a-teen world. Still does.

I got this useful bon mot from a middle school teacher recently.

In response to, “I DONT UNDERSTAND,” he calmly said, “okay what steps have you taken to understand?”

And that’s when I realized that a lot of folks have no steps.
