Listen to this. Not a penny more for this. Abolish and prosecute anyone who had anything to do with it.

Democratizing the arts looks like universal income, low-barrier grants for both emerging and working artists, well-funded municipal arts & recreation programs, vibrant third spaces, and a well-funded public school system with progressive curriculum.

Not a free pass for corporate-owned slop engines.
Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams

What is happening in Minneapolis is horrific.

But it is essential to flag just how WEAK ICE and CBP are, esp in the face of concerted civil resistance.

All this macho posturing are words done in service of agencies that are really thinly staffed.

This is the way, make “ok, abolish only ICE” the moderate position.
Amid growing calls for the abolition of ICE, Rep. Delia Ramirez is calling for the entire DHS to be dismantled. Highlighting how much experience the officers who killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti had, Ramirez said, “DHS was built to violate our rights and has been empowered to act with impunity.”

“The problem isn’t ‘training.’ DHS was built to violate our rights,” said Rep. Delia C. Ramirez.

Media calling this a “slaying” seems like more evidence that DHS is clearly losing the battle to control the narrative here.

One thing that irks me: people keep calling the folks on the streets in Minneapolis protestors. They are not generally there to protest, they are there to observe and document. This is the product of organizing and mutual aid. It is telling that these acts of citizenship are seen as protest!

Emphasizing that ICE is deliberately arresting people who are in the asylum process precisely because they are easy pickings; after all, they're complying with the government!

Amazingly, it's likely legal; but cruel, unjust, and very counterproductive by discouraging compliance!
The parents of a 7 year old, all of whom are in the process of applying for asylum, took their daughter to the ER when her nose wouldn't stop bleeding. ICE picked them up near the hospital and they are now in detention in Texas, presumably awaiting deportation. www.oregonlive.com/portland/202...

I know people on Bsky know this but I hope it filters out: The feds are OCCUPYING the Twin Cities. This is a blockade, a siege. They are shutting down economic and civic activity. They are conducting "papers please" stops. They are criminalizing being a bystander/witness.

The message from the White House this morning is that, once again, it falls on ordinary American citizens to remain calm and professional when dealing with the heavily armed agents of the government because they are very emotional and might fly off into a murderous rage at the slightest insult.

I have a new piece up @slate.com, on the politics of Minneapolis's DA going after the ICE officer (now ID'd as Jonathan Ross) who killed Renee Good.

She's been aggressive on police shooting in the past, residents are outraged at the killing, and she can charge even without a fed or local arrest.
The FBI Is Obstructing the Minneapolis Probe. The ICE Shooter Should Still Be Very Worried.
Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty can bring charges even without any arrest and is not one to back down from a case like this.

Gender-affirming care saves lives
1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

The central lie — the key dishonesty — of modern conservatism is that being judgmental about the ethnicity or language or culture of the person next door is fine and acceptable, but being judgmental of that attitude is elitist and arrogant and closed-minded. What vapid bullshit.
