Hi, I'm the guy who used to oversee the federal government's agency IT telecommunications contracts. This is extremely bad. There is absolutely no need for this. Not only is it a huge security exposure, but the simplest explanation for this is that it is meant to be a security exposure.

It is genuinely your moral duty, if you’re in the sciences, to violate the terms of your contact and take as much of the research home with you as you can. Today, tomorrow, every day your lab’s still open.
this is a golden age for walking out of your lab with a USB key in your pocket getting on a plane and going to Luxembourg
Scientists have just cured pancreatic cancer in some patients with personalized mRNA vaccines. Pancreatic cancer. And this Trump administration wants to throw it all away.

They’re throwing away a cure for cancer.

Yo @durbin.senate.gov, no one is picking up your Senate phone and you don’t even have a voicemail. Vote no on cloture and the spending bill or I will do whatever it takes to make sure the next Senator from Illinois has basic constituent services set up during business hours.

Call your representative, call your senators. Demand that they withhold their votes until and unless Trump and Musk are brought to heel.
@tommalinowski.bsky.social is completely correct here. If Democrats provide the decisive votes to sanction Trump’s criminal government, it’ll be a historic failure of both principle and politics. newrepublic.com/article/1925...

Being a historian, people ask me if I think the US is living through Germany 1933.

I answer no, analogies are always imperfect but to me it feels more like Russia 1999: a blatant theft of state assets and liberals in a fugue state, refusing to believe the arc of progress is bending against them.

An unprecedented, full-blown crisis - the total failure of Article I of the Constitution- & the Fourth Estate is not communicating this basic, essential fact to the public.
I continue to be astounded by how much of the DC media is just credulously providing stenography for Trump — treating the simple fact that Trump LEGALLY can’t achieve what many of his EOs “order” as an aside.

But if the price of goods is rising to facilitate the reinvigoration of American production and a transition to an economy that prioritizes domestic goods and markets, that’s a tradeoff we should consider.
