This whole thread is incredibly important for young scholars. We all get rejected. The very first line of the first review of the first ever paper I submitted to a journal read:
"I strongly oppose publication of this manuscript in [Journal name] and any other journal"

During my PhD, I got a rejection that stung:
“This paper is looking for a needle in a haystack, and this should give the author pause to question if this entire exercise is worth it.”
My PhD wasn’t Animal Farm, but still this stung.

Wait wait wait. A paper that explains radical right support with a sensible theoretical mechanism and a causal explanation that can actually be influenced by policy? Didn't know these still existed

this is a depressingly good point (about how the EU / Aus / China / Asia-Pac etc did not step up nearly enough to fill the gap left by USAID)
if literally any country on earth had responded to the imminent death of millions by saying "i think that shouldn't happen," then -- fine. the era of american hegemony is over.

Political science has obsessed over polarization while largely neglecting extremism, and with few exceptions has been inattentive to the roots of it all—power, structures, and identities. Too many elites are just as unprepared. Thus, their takes are empty, trite, and naive.
