seems to me the main reason bluesky has a lot of desperately unhappy people freaking out about politics and world affairs on it instead of being like twitter was in the middle of the last decade is that you are using and discussing it in 2025 instead of in the middle of the last decade

Apparently, it’s socially unacceptable to compare anyone or anything to Hitler.
Mention Hitler, and you’ll be shouted down with a chorus of “Godwin’s Law”.
Well sod that.
Until we start comparing Trump to Hitler, we’re unprepared for what is barrelling towards us. 🧵1/4

Getting lost in statistics about numbers and semantics about ideology misses real issue: This is no "grassroots" movement. It is externally funded and organised. Its network ALL have X blue ticks and Musk beamed in to incite violence. Stop the dark money and astroturfing. The rest will soon wither.

A political party, that's topping the polls, lauding someone who called for human beings to be burned to death should be a moment for national self-reflection.

This is not who we are nor who we should become.

Reform UK are a plague on our national humanity. We must never permit them to govern.

Nobody knows if civil conflict will start in US.

But this is certainly how a civil war could start.

The breakdown of constitutional mechanisms to resolve tensions, leading to use of coercive and even lethal force by both ‘sides’.

Yep, civil conflict is one foreseeable outcome of this escalation

Farage is moving seamlessly between "asylum-seekers" and Pakistanis, and those without indefinite leave to remain. He is extremely manipulative. His proposals should be seen as a giant crash to the British economy, an extreme push to normalise racism, and a vile destruction of British values.

Violent or destructive left wing protest is framed as delegitimising the protesters' stated cause.

Violent or destructive right wing protest is framed as emphasing the need for urgent action on the protesters' stated cause.

As always, right wing men are treated as elemental forces without agency.
This is a bit of a atretch/hope: there were 5 protests, with the largest two being up to 300 people, a total of around a thousand or so people.

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

Labour's immigration announcement today is a reflection of the paucity of honest debate by BOTH political parties over the last decade on this issue.

Labour has never made a counter-argument, or been honest about economic cost of immigration curbs, so it's stuck making Tory/Reform arguments 1/n
