i think it's very bad that "agentic disinformation network, agentic nation-state level black hat, agentic revenge porn at scale" all occurred and were funded before "AI PowerPoint slide deck creation that actually looks nice" got solved

Heavily dug the first two eps of Pluribus, which reminded me of a ton of recent arch philosophical TV sci-fi—stuff like Last Man in Earth, Downloaded, there’s been a shocking amount of these, some strong, some weak!—but cooler and more beautiful and bigger… and genuinely funny, in dark ways

Opening the black box of character training
Some new research from me!
Exploring how easy it is to craft personalities like sycophantic chatbots, and exploring how this will change as we move from chat to agents.

Billy, this is Paul DePodesta. He started with the Indians in 1996 so he knows how to run a team with five nickels and a dream. His nickname is “Google Boy.” His defect is he hasn’t worked in baseball in 10 years and the whole league uses sabermetrics now.

your country should be massively overprovisioned for food and electricity or you have done it wrong
Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity
Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

The amount of ad fraud that buyers put up with is an indictment of the entire profession. Kevin Frisch's report from Uber should have shook the foundation of performance internet marketing. The purpose of the system is clearly not to find eyeballs, it's to spend marketing budget.
quick proof they’re doing this

what if we let our caches touch under the stars?
Cache to Cache: let agents communicate in KV cache latent space

Instead of con concatenating the text from one agent into another, just concatenate their KV cache directly

this is dumb, how do i get it now???

- Wirt from Garden Wall
- Dirk Gently
- The doctor from that one scene when Jodie Whittaker is in space jail.
- The moon from ISTTVG
- The kid from Monster Squad w/ the Stephen King Rules shirt.

My grandfather when a baseball game went to extra innings: “Gee whiz, we’re getting free baseball!”

Social media in 2025 when a game goes to extra innings: “I am acutely aware of my mortality and can feel the flesh rotting off my bones.”

My dad retired last year and is really struggling w/ getting sucked into youtube rabbit holes and not knowing what to trust. I got him signed up for a free gemini trial and taught him how to run a Deep Research report.

It's been very helpful.
So this is very true of pure inference, and is what ChatGPT looked like 18 months or so ago.

Now, with RAG advances and agentic reasoning, they are far better at going online, getting sources, checking assumptions, etc.

(absolutely not perfect and you should still be skeptical of output)
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

This would have been a better concept for Megalopolis.
concept: central park replaced by recursively smaller versions of manhattan until we hit singularity

It’s gotten better about it but I loved how it would give a time estimate for a feature as if it were a human SWE team. “authentication? that’ll be about a week of effort…”
The ChatGPT subreddit is absolutely hilarious. LLMs just output statistically likely responses, and a statistically likely response to being asked to do some work is "I'll have that done by...". So apparently in some cases ChatGPT had just been telling users it'll get back to them later.

If multi-agent coding paradigms are going to be a thing, shouldn't we have some kind of version control that assumes multiple processes on the filesystem will be making changes to the same files across directories at the same time?

Idc how good they get with git, it's not designed for that.

I was working at a cannabis tech startup and we had just finished migrating all of our apps to a single portal in Auth0. Then Auth0 took an 8-hour outage on 4/20. All our customers were hard down. By hour 3 we made the call to shim in an alternate auth provider on the fly.
#hugOps story time! Quote this and tell me the biggest incident you ever saw in production. It’s inevitable, it’s gonna happen, and learning from incidents is way better than shitting on people trying to fix them.

I’ll start :)

OK I watched the Karpathy interview, and what was the claim people were worked up about? Just that his timeline for AGI is longer than others? Like, it all seemed pretty anodyne. I liked the bit about tutors. That'd be a cool future.

Worth noting that Orban spent something on the order of 5% of GDP in subsidies and incentives to bring the birth rate above replacement. It didn't work.
Once a household gets a little economic freedom, they won't have the marginal child that forces them to give it up.

A lot of the big innovations in software in the last 15 years (microservices, API contracts, cloud, SaaS) are for building out big software very quickly in parallel and should be judged on those merits, not on performance or complexity.
From a dev at Big Tech: “3 devs across 3 teams are stuck for a month on a build problem that’s caused by connections resetting between two gateways and a messaging queue.

I cannot solve it because I’m blocked access to the other 2 teams’ systems.

I cannot see AI solving this.”

friend of a friend came for advice navigating the job market and their core problem seems to be they can’t imagine any work in SWE they’d actually enjoy and don’t really care if they’re considered “good” at any aspect of it and, man, it just bums me out.
