Few things bug me more than higher ed leaders saying that we lost our mission and lost the trust of the public, when we have actually been the target of a decades-long smear campaign by the right wing that worked. The moment we’re losing our mission is right now, in capitulation.

I live 100ft away from a retired House rep in his 80s who I see at least monthly at our neighborhood social; he has said to me almost verbatim what Duncan said here. Older members are terrified of walking away from the 20-person 24/7 support network you can't even get in a high end nursing home.
I keep saying this but the reason members of congress want to stay in office until they die is they can't buy that kind of elder care anywhere else, even if they are rich

We feed over 6000 people every month. Now with SNAP being interrupted we’re possibly looking at 9-10,000 in the next month. We can’t do this. It’s not sustainable.
Most of my co workers can’t handle the added work too as they’re minimum wage workers and volunteers.
