Genuinely think anyone can “git gud” at any creative craft they are interested in. If we wanted to actually “democratize” art we would invest in housing, healthcare, food and education as human rights. All GenAI does is make people even more financially precarious and less able to pursue a passion
I think a bit of the "AI is democratizing art" argument is trying to avoid the ugly truth that to get good at anything you have to do a lot of it. I grew up "knowing" I was a good writer, but I really wasn't until about 700k words, and it took reading hours of scripts to really have a voice

Portland has many old horse tethering rings in its sidewalks, and people like to tie small toy horses to them. In my neighborhood, some of them get seasonal outfits.

Tiny Horses Are Taking Over Portland's Streets
Look down, and you'll likely come across one tethered to an antique horse ring.

Wait, he is self-censoring the name of this app because he knows that Elon’s algorithm will downrank his post’s reach if he types out the name of a competitor, but BLUESKY seems terrible. GOT IT.
Well, now I know we made the right decisions

AI generated content is ALWAYS exploitation.
Periodic reminder: a lot of what makes AI "work" is exploited people doing the tasks, just hidden behind fancy websites.

It's good that a normie outlet like 60 Minutes is reporting on this.

Imma need some of you to think about thriving out of spite. I had big plans for 2025 and I’m definitely not gonna pre-derail them for likes of Elin and Tromp. I’m getting more involved. Loving harder. Writing hornier. Having more fun. I’m gonna be so kind to my neighbors, bitch.

Ohayou Bluesky. It’s cloudy here. Let me tell you about another trend among Japanese artists. They're moving to Xfolio from pixiv nowadays. Xfolio clearly says they ban all of genAI images, while pixiv is pro-AI. Many AIbros have tried to spam Xfolio, but they have been swept off into the dustbox.
