I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Writers with kids face many extra challenges to our schedules/productivity/sanity. But also, they will just randomly drop the most banger story prompts.
My 2nd grader just woke up to say "sometimes my eyeballs get strangled together and I can't open my eyes."

This is an incredible friend
A customer just came into the shop and bought 12 books for her friend’s birthday. She’s going to wrap them individually and write a different month of the year on each one, so her friend has a new book to read every month until her next birthday. And I think that’s just the most thoughtful gift.
