spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

I waited a day to say this bc I respected everyone's right to vent some anger, but *remember to focus on what you can do*. Whether it's defending your community, taking action around what you've been venting about, whatever — but don't let all of your energy get captured in the social media space.

Feeling very similarly about every time I'm witness to that empty phrase pandering to a newly met veteran: Thank you for your service.

How about, when learning about someone's compulsory murder tour abroad we ask how well they've had their trauma tended since returning?
I fucking hate poppy season.

The soldiers who died didn't do so for 'democracy' or 'freedom'. They didn't have those things. They lived under brutal, colonial regimes. They died for Empire and countries that saw them as chaff to be thrown away.

OVER A MILLION USERS

DISCUSS SUICIDE WITH CHATGPT

EVERY *WEEK*

what the fuck are we DOING here
Panera’s moderately caffeinated lemonade was loosely associated with 2 deaths before it was taken off market.

This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAI’s own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.
I fully believe in the corporate death penalty and believe we would be a better world if OpenAI lost its corporate charter and was forcibly dissolved.

Imagine only having to cover rent/mortgage on the steadily reducing value of your income (especially when you're earning it without any actual accommodation of disability) !!!
Important:

Congress has a $79/day allowance for food!!

And they get free healthcare!!

Autistic accommodations aren’t a luxury

They’re not “nice extras” or “special treatment”

They’re ESSENTIAL adjustments that help autistic people exist safely, access what others already can, and live with less pain and exhaustion

Still can't wrap my head around the fact that internationally renowned activist Greta Thunberg said she was tortured and sexually humiliated by Israeli soldiers when she was abducted for trying to bring aid to starving civilians and the world just shrugged and moved on.

This is heartbreaking. No one should have to go through this, but especially to see it aimed so constantly at children is violent and cruel. We all have a sacred responsibility to stop this. No one should have to live under this weight.
As a parent of a trans kid, part of what shatters my heart is that The Discourse around trans kids is just loud and constant. She has good framing, but the barrage of hate is exhausting. Every day for her is so much more work than for her peers, because she has to hold up her shields constantly.

Yes, defend SNAP, but making econometric arguments about it saving other costs or increasing productivity is losing the plot.

As Elaine Brown said, "Because we are so used to the capitalist construct, it doesn’t occur to us that we have a human right to eat; because if you don’t eat you will die."

Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.

Great discussion in the replies!
I don’t exactly how to phrase this, but like… is autism that bad???? Like, why is it such a source of fear??? Of course there are challenges but you can be autistic and have a rich, fulfilling life! Many people do! I don’t understand the preoccupation.

Conversion != Therapy

... Like, ever.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court hears a challenge of a Colorado law that forbids licensed mental health professionals from attempting to change minors’ gender identity or sexual orientation. Experts say the practice is "can be harmful, and should not be part of behavioral health treatment.”
SCOTUS wades back into the war on trans kids—and considers greenlighting conversion therapy
The science is in: the anti-LGBTQ "treatments" are ineffective and dangerous.
