Does it make sense to limit rapidly expanding earnings gaps?
Have you read up on pilot programs (or those that have been adopted permanently) which have found reduced crime, illness, and hunger (e.g. UBI) ???

This could be a direct and simple way to begin meeting the needs of other neglected populations.
