Love to mildly gas myself with fumes from the acetone that I had to soak my fingers in after sticking them together while superglueing a vase back together that the cat knocked off the windowsill while trying to escape from the bathroom that I had no idea she was stuck in.

Give 👏🏻 UNRESTRICTED 👏🏻 dollars.

This goes for when you donate, too - don't restrict a gift to a specific fund. If the non-profit has an option for "wherever it's most needed," choose that. That goes into gen ops which means it pays for the unsexy shit like Keeping the Lights On and Paying the Admin.
The headline I feel like is that all the philanthropic donations from billionaires typically have a shitload of restrictions.

Mackenzie is like “you’re doing work to stop something horrible or to help something good? Cool. Here’s a few hundred million.” and the paper is like “wow… so novel”
Mackenzie Scott’s signature philanthropic style is giving unrestricted gifts—a rarity in the industry. trib.al/DjrurgM

Probably stay at my job but go down to part time. 10-15 hrs/wk would be good to keep my skills up but not feel overwhelming. Fix the house up. Do some volunteering. Spend more time with friends. Recover from burnout.
Honest question: If everyone got Universal Basic Income, no strings attached, what would YOU do with it?

rates are high because central govt is not funding your region appropriately, or your regional govt is not raising enough funds and as such directing that need to fundraise directly to rates. if you put a rates cap in place without addressing either of these issues, i don't know what to tell you.
Yes that is entirely the point.

Force user-pays on everybody so that the wealthy can have a nice society that the poor aren't able to participate in but have to prop up.
Rates caps may mean more expensive parking, libraries and pools, mayors say
Councils might consider raising fees for things like pools, recreation centres and other community facilities, Wellington mayor Andrew Little says.

Get someone who can do both 😎
(It's me, I do both. I also say "train!" whenever I'm stopped at a level crossing)
[me to my gay friends] so which one of you drives the car and which one points to the cows and says ‘cow’?

BOOM!

The power of the people prevails again.

In a BIG win for food sovereignty and climate justice, the High Court of Kenya has ruled in favour of smallholder farmers by decriminalising the age-old practice of saving, sharing, and exchanging indigenous seeds.

If you're buying gifts for the holidays, maybe consider supporting artists, writers, creators. Gift someone a Patreon, commission an art piece, buy a book, purchase handmade jewelry, etc. Your support means everything.

This feels like Luxon is taking the piss out of everyone his Government has pushed into poverty.💩🥚

It's very dissonant having a mayor who is vehemently anti-roadcone meanwhile NZTA is resorting to signs saying "please show down my dad works here" in kids' handwriting bc presumably drivers are still speeding despite cones and speed limit signs and trucks with flashing lights 🙃

All the Local Choices rhetoric is a smokescreen to attack those parts of local govt and legislation which could stand in the way of absolute exploitation and dismemberment of the environment, communities, taxes, public services, democracy, and everything else we value.
So ... the government just forced us all to have referendums on *existing* Māori wards because Local Communities Deserve Choice, but now they're unilaterally abolishing our regional councils because they don't like the Choices we made?

I grew up very aware of how dangerous hippos are, and yes it was still delightful to throw a cabbage into a hippo's mouth.
God, I love hippos.

Did you know that you can just go to the zoo/aquarium and hang out with them?

Most dangerous large land animal on earth, their babies chew on nile crocodiles - WHO LET THEM, because they are TERRIFIED of mom - and also, will beg you for food like dogs at the dinner table.

May I offer you the hippo thread in this troubling time
Additionally, hippos - despite being massive - have almost no fat on them. All of that impressive bulk is muscle.

2% body fat. Compare that to Elephants, which are around 8-10%, or rhinos, which are 10-20%.

The average human is around 20-40%, for reference.

They're *all* muscle.

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.
