Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

Texans will vote on 17 constitutional amendments on Nov. 4.

Here’s the ballot in plain English: If you’re wealthy, the state promises to protect your fortune. For everyone else, there’s small perks, patriotic gestures, and pothole-filling promises.

Kim Davis going from "my religious beliefs demand that I don't facilitate a same-sex marriages" to "my religious beliefs demand that there are NO same-sex marriages anywhere" *should* make Democrats realize there is no "sincere" compromise with bigots on trans issues.

I'm vending at a local show this weekend, so today is the last day to make sure you get any sets currently on the website!

I'll be locking it tonight to make sure inventory numbers don't get weird, and then putting it back up on Monday after I've removed whatever sold.

I *cannot* fucking stress this enough:

The threat of AI is *NOT* making movies for us, but the hundreds of jobs it will be able to easily eliminate from crew positions. VFX. Drone pilots. Color timing. Sound mixing. Clerical staff.

If we don't move to protect jobs NOW, they WILL go away forever.

This is an executive order that lays the groundwork for sending homeless people and people with mental illness to concentration camps to be "civilly committed." It was never going to stop with immigrants.

This is horrifying beyond words.

Brad Lander's "The line in the Democratic Party right now is not between progressives and moderates — it's between fighters and folders" is truly *the* best diagnosis of what's needed right now. It also has the advantage of being backed up by public opinion.
Since we are in new round (it never ends) of what Dems ought to do while fascists power grab, a view from voters in our latest Research Collaborative/Data for Progress national survey (N=1199, July 18-20)

Not starving Gaza actually seems to be the popular choice- but our political systems are not set up to deliver popular outcomes.

I have a hard time finding the words to say about the ongoing crisis in Palestine. It’s an atrocity, it’s a genocide, I want it to stop.
It’s worse than “Gaza is being starved and destroyed and no one cares.” It’s that hundreds of millions *do* care and are powerless to stop it. We need a world where that can never happen, where the masses actually have political power.

At this point it just really doesn't matter anymore how well or badly a game sells. If management feels that number could go up faster by axing 300 jobs that's what they'll do. There's always more profit to be made. It'll never be enough. Absolute fucking bullshit.

Speaking strictly from the US animation industry, this is truly an unprecedented time of hardship. People up and down the career ladder are struggling to find work, the newest to the most experienced and talented artists. It truly is just luck at this point (and who you know that is also lucky)
Disrespectfully, I need anyone who has not looked for a job within the past year to shut up because shit has changed. Your advice and experience doing this in the past means nothing. You have not job hunted like people are job hunting right now, don’t give people false hope with your outdated ideas
