Hey @ringwiss.bsky.social @kdbyproxy.bsky.social @americalabs.org @historygosh.bsky.social is there any* way Johnson can gavel in the House to vote on this bill & not immediately have to yield to a privileged motion to swear in Grijalva & then immediately have to deal with the discharge petition?

100% this. No, one should trust those 5 who flipped now. I wondered when Schumer floated that one year extension deal whether some Democrats in the Senate were going soft.
the caucus gets how this is *worse* right? if you're just going around Schumer, what's the point of leadership

Blocked again. I have a knack. Politics ain't beanbag, especially when things are in a massive, generational, transitional shift. It merits discussion, and those can be unpleasant. That's just part of trying to keep a democracy. But you stay in the fight. Especially now.
Eight of them did. Have some perspective about the ones who've been working thanklessly for weeks on this stuff.
And yeah, you come into my mentions, and I decide how to respond.

It was a mistake because Democrats appear not to have the courage of their convictions. This is a chronic party problem and today fit into it, but the only way to solve it is to stand up for choices and commitments you make. Keeping Schumer or replacing him is less important than that.
In a world where the incumbent president bowed to pressure and stepped aside, it doesn’t seem like such a monumental ask to switch minority leaders.

@lawrenceodonnell.msnbc.com made a compelling argument about what they did, as one who knows from inside. But it comes down to what is lost. This will cause harm. Would they have gotten the subsidies? No. But they might have gotten an extension. They weren't going to wait until after Thanksgiving.
Tim Kaine on backlash he's getting: "I got the first good night's sleep last night that I've gotten since Oct 1, b/c I wasn't worried about being able to look Capitol Police in the eye when I walked in, or what a furloughed fed worker would say to me at church, or what somebody would say about SNAP"

My local rural school district is set to lose over $700,000 a year under the new school funding formula, while the Governor is funding private religious schools with taxpayer vouchers.

What a scam…

The old guard of the Democratic Senate have not lived through the necessity of cutting some of their members off. That's where they are, and they're gonna have to step up and do it if they want to keep their base's support. @whitehouse.senate.gov

The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

After yesterday’s surrender, we’re launching the largest Democratic primary program that we’ve ever run.

We will not back any Senate primary candidate unless they call for Schumer to step down as Minority Leader.

If you’re as pissed as we are, join this campaign to rebuild the Democratic Party. 👇
Democratic leaders have failed us again. It's time to get new leaders.
After yet another capitulation by Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats, it's clear we need new leadership capable of mounting a serious opposition to Trump's authoritarian regime. We're launching our la...

This is true, but it's important to remember that corporate backing and backing of very rich green roots groups like Heritage, have had an impact that Democrats don't have a counterpart for. It would be nice if corporations realized they thrive because of us, not in spite of us.
This. There’s a reason why the Tea Party wasn’t a new party. It’s much cheaper to take over an existing party. Mamdani doesn’t have to be an outlier, we can find more candidates capable of meeting the moment and free ourselves from these centrists and their enablers.
“Rather than taking over the Democratic Party the same way the right took over the Republican Party, we should take the easier route and just start up a new party ourselves!”

In my old town the GOP had run basically without serious challenge for decades. A bunch of us "millennials" joined the local Dem party and basically asked to help.

We were running it in a year. Within 4 years we had a majority of town seats flipped Dem. A FAR more progressive Dem than old party

NEW: Dems easily flipped the sheriff's office in Pennsylvania's Bucks County, a big swing county in the Philly suburbs.

So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.

Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:

Look, Democrats are united, but one of the things they're united about is that certain leadership and a handful of elected Democrats need to go. They've overstayed their welcome, they've outlived their usefulness, and they need to find something else to do. @hassan.senate.gov
Nope. That was blown by Eight Senators Out. You can't recover it. It's irreversible. Johnson will not take it up. What Senate Democrats did last night was vote with Republicans to end Americans' healthcare. It was a foregone conclusion. You know that. This ain't your first rodeo. @kaine.senate.gov

Absolutely.

The far right took over the GOP through the long process of taking over local and county organizations and the left can do the same. It’s not an instant fix but it actually works.

Progressives who are serious about achieving reform will see the opportunity here and will follow their lead. They have principles AND political instincts and savvy. This opportunity is not permanent nor repeating. This can be your time, but it is NOW..
Why can’t people get this through their heads? AOC, Crockett, Mamdani, and others…they ARE taking leadership roles whether the old school Dems like it or not.
