It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...

Oh wow, finally got to issue 6 of Assorted Crisis Events! I knew it would be an emotional read but jeez did it hit harder than I thought it would. Just the best comic out there right now.

People still default too often to the fact that Trumps base won’t care about one revelation or another. But as elections keep showing us, the universe of people other than his base is much bigger and we do care. So exposing shit does matter and it’s worth sharing those things so others oppose him.

I’m pretty far from the Style Guy level of clothing knowledge and even I can tell this looks like 💩
Just found the guy who makes Jordan Peterson's suits and the fact his own suit looks awful on him is telling.

🧵 THREAD: A federal whistleblower just dropped one of the most disturbing cybersecurity disclosures I’ve ever read.

He's saying DOGE came in, data went out, and Russians started attempting logins with new valid DOGE passwords

Media's coverage wasn't detailed enough so I dug into his testimony:

My first subscription comic when I was a boy. Kubert still drew most of them at that time I think. Wish I still had them to re-read!
Happy anniversary to Sgt. Rock – a soldier who knows that nothing worth having ever comes easy 🫡  He first appeared in OUR ARMY AT WAR #83, written by Robert Kanigher, with pencils and ink by Joe Kubert.

We must demand better. Not Gavin Newsom, who snatches the belongings of unhoused folks and plays paddy cake with Steve Fucking Bannon. Not Rahm Emanuel, who covered up a murder, closed 50 schools, and shuttered half of Chicago's publicly funded mental health clinics. We need new and better politics.

Read the full run of Forever People this week. Y'all know what a huge Fourth World fan I am. I consider it the high water mark of mainstream comics.

With this latest re-read it really hit me how dark this series is! Considering its prescience to our current reality, it's fucking terrifying!

I finished Blood in the Machine about 2 weeks ago. Comes with my highest recommendation! I learned so much and enjoyed how well the history ties into what’s happening right now.

The final chapter hit hard for me. I was not prepared for that ending!
Just got news that BLOOD IN THE MACHINE is going back to the presses again for a fifth printing. Thanks to all the machine breakers out there for supporting the book.

I mean I was on Instagram Reels for about 5 minutes and started seeing videos of Asheville and North Carolina. I would probably not want to browse people’s online history that are not exposed to the devastation.
I’ve seen many people of various political persuasions say that they’ve seen very little or no coverage of the devastation in Asheville. That may be so, but it’s not really an indictment of the media as much as it’s an indication that your media diet in particular is fucked.

Musk's propaganda is nowhere close to the truth. Last year, a mere 29,000 asylees became naturalized citizens. They all entered before Biden became President, and none of them were undocumented—applying for citizenship requires 5 years of lawful permanent residence.
These mainstream pronatalist pieces are being published while Musk is ranting on X using pronatalist conspiracy theories to argue America needs to elect an authoritarian:

2nd July 1863. Battle of Gettysburg. For perhaps the only time in the entire war the Confederates seem to be winning.

Dan Sickles, commander III Corps, is ordered hold on Cemetery Ridge. For reasons unknown he advances. Broken, his men begin to flee.

This is the moment on which the war depends /1
