so basically we’re going to have to figure out how to go back to building systems of knowledge based almost entirely on confirming sources - like you needed to do pre-photograph and video - since all true videos will seem fake and fake videos will seem true

It's often joked that Undertale's code is the product of Toby Fox doing "musician programming", the natural counterpart to "programmer art", but it's worse than that. Undertale is not Toby Fox's first rodeo. It is the work of someone whose understanding of of coding came from romhacking SNES games.

Most of Target’s struggles are because they didn’t think their most loyal customers were worth standing up for.

They abandoned DEI and we put our wallets away. That’s the real story 🤷🏾‍♀️
Target just sent up a giant red flag about the U.S. consumer. A 30% stock plunge, collapsing store traffic, and margin pressure all point to the same thing: Affluent shoppers are rattled and recession fears are rising qz.com/tgt-wmt-earn...

It was painful to do but it shouldn't be a difficult decision. Either an organization has integrity or it was only ever a trap ready to spring shut on people.

It’s hard to over emphasize how important it is to have a real constitution like this. There are things you should not tolerate regardless of any accompanying political or monetary pressure because they are incompatible with decency. “Don’t be evil” is not enough: make a list and stick to it.

Python was awarded a funding grant, funding grant asked Python foundation to remove all diversity and inclusion initiatives they have.

Python foundation said no and rejected the grant.

If you use Python, send a few dollars to the charity to keep it going. I’m pushing a dono on behalf of ScamGuard.

remember that time when I wrote an article explaining how and why alt right types like to infiltrate wholesome communities and how to be resilient against that behavior?

i think it's worth it to read Lovecraft, and not just because so much horror canon comes from him. his work embodies an extremely specific kind of modern american derangement syndrome, whereby someone can tell Something Is Wrong, but they aim their fear in the wrong direction, i.e. at minorities.

I’m not sure what’s sadder, the Homestuck team insisting that Hauntswitch is still going to happen despite no update on Hiveswap besides discord posts, or the official Hiveswap bluesky account arguing with a journalist they made up that they portray as obsessively trying to ruin Hiveswap development

I really believe generative AI is a cognitohazard to an entire column of humanity. I don't know, there's a something it fucking does to people that displaces their own entirely-capable cognition and independence, further they seemingly cannot perceive the deficits of. This is not a moral argument.

As someone points out, it is profoundly absurd to have Dems trying to win the shutdown by focusing on the important distinction of “because” versus “unless” when their primary enemy, who is humiliating them roundly, fires off barely literate tweets announcing the invasion of Portland over breakfast
The endless search for magic words that will the debate - "talk about health care in this PRECISE way, talk about the cost of living using these EXACT words" - is going to be the death of us. This is not how politics works. Nothing has ever depended on Dems saying "because" instead of "unless."
