I have felt for quite a while that at least a part of anti-migrant, anti-refugee behaviour from successive governments is pulling the drawbridge up ahead of an increase in climate-caused refugee movement.

And you know what? It's not gonna save us, lads
On one of the dirty hippy US politics podcasts in 2017, after the torchlit Nazi rally where one of the marchers killed a woman.

notice the general mood of the timeline? how everyone is in a good mood and there’s a lot less misery and dooming? how there’s a lot of “we’re going to beat these assholes”?

anyway that’s why these events are important

i think it is hard for some people to really their heads around the reality that kennedy is staunchly anti-vaccine and thinks that people should suffer through disease and that those who die deserved it and that those who survive are a better order of human being

Fascinating. Microsoft emailed me to say it was raising the price of Microsoft 365, but when i went to cancel it offered me me the old price — without all the AI bullshit.

It’s forcing AI on everyone and making them pay more for it, then only telling them they don’t have to if they try to cancel.

The mad thing is, for like %99.998 of human history, nobody really spoke to anyone who wasn't born within a couple miles of them, and we're supposed to believe that *now* people's horizons are too narrow?

I know we don't feel like there's much to celebrate this July 4th. It's been a rough several years.

So I want to talk about how we're making history right now.

My mom and stepdad are from the same diaspora group as Zohran Mamdani’s dad (same like “my stepdad was kicked out of the same town and knows some of his classmates”) and apparently the New York Times doesn’t understand how diaspora works, so I am going to tell you a little about my mom’s people!

I am so happy right now! I was re-listening to the Graphic Audio productions of @adapalmer.bsky.social 's first two Terra Ignota books, and feeling sad because I thought the last two weren't going to be made. But on a whim I checked, and they are available! The last one is on pre-order. So glad!

we all had a lot of fun dunking on “menstrual cycle education” yesterday but what they’re talking about there is propaganda to vilify other methods of birth control in favor of the rhythm method, specifically because it has a higher failure rate
This is definitely a chapter out of The Handmaiden’s Tale.
Trump trying to find ways to get women to have more babies including paying them $5000 and educating them about their menstrual cycles.

Because the Real ID requirements will kick in this May, we're trying to decide between attempting to get my MIL either a passport or a Real ID. The passport means dealing with a federal government that is in complete chaos. The Real ID means spending hours at the RMV. Tough decision.

Everyone seems to be framing Trump's freeze on federal grants as a Constitutional fight over powers of the purse & whether presidents can disregard Congressional appropriations. It is that. But also at stake is the fundamental validity of government contracts! I see much less discussion on this... 🧵
