Has anyone had any success in getting info formerly on the now-defunct USGCRP website via FOIA? I know there are copies of past Climate Assessments (kudos to Climate.us) and a few other reports available elsewhere, but I'm trying to find other info that used to be on the site. [1/3]

An important step, but so far only signed by 12 nations, and only 2 of the top 10 oil-producing states: Canada (no. 4) and Brazil (no. 8). The remaining 10 rank 50th or below, with 4 producing zero petroleum. We'll see how enthusiastic petrostates are about this effort.
“This is the first COP in history where information integrity is one of the guiding principles of the negotiations. This issue will not disappear with this COP. It is important that this is not the first & the last in which this topic has been placed as an important pillar.”

My favorite quote from E.B. White in the post: “I know that the free spirit of man is persistent in nature; it recurs, and has never successfully been wiped out, by fire or flood."
NEW: Gregory Bovino is exactly who E.B. White — author of 'Charlotte's Web' — warned us about.

DHS named its North Carolina anti-immigrant effort "Operation Charlotte's Web." In 1940, White wrote of the "smell" that "rises" from those who "adjust to fascism" over freedom.

This line will echo throughout history along side the accounts of soldiers at Okinawa and Omaha Beach describing the horrors of battle.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.

One of the fascinating things about studying solar geoengineering is that it opens doors to areas of study you never anticipated (or even knew existed). For example, this article by @thedanahoward.bsky.social that is an entry into the study of hope.

An outstanding way to add another brick to build community, rather than throwing one to tear it down.
Let's try something new.

If you donate to a food bank and tell me how much and which one, I'll match your donation.

If it's less than $50, I'll round up.

Tag me, reply here, or DM if you prefer.

Why food banks? Because if we want to survive a general strike, we need to keep people fed.
Now is a really good time to donate to food banks, and do food runs for mutual aid groups. Also, do menstrual product runs.

Having been involved with this report for the past 5 years, overall takeaways IMO are:

- Good news: we know (in great detail) the things the 🌎 needs to do to stay w/in 1.5°C!
- Good news: we are doing many of the things!
- Bad news: we’re not doing ANY of the things at the necessary speed or scale!
BREAKING: The #StateOfClimateAction 2025 finds the world is failing to act fast enough to combat the climate crisis and secure a livable future, with no indicators of global climate action currently on track for 2030. 🌏🌡️

A huge part of the problem is that we only hear from the partisan political appointees. There are many reasons why, but the vast majority of people have no idea what agency staff do and why their work is important. Michael Lewis has done a stellar job of highlighting this work, but it's rare.
We've long seen this kind of contingent partisan evaluation of other institutions, but as far as I know this is some of the first real evidence of it when it comes to administrative agencies. It makes sense: people could perhaps be forgiven for thinking that agencies just are the President.
Which agencies do Americans think are doing a good job?
Recent surveys have shown that how Republicans and Democrats view federal agencies has switched since Donald Trump became president again.
