When The U.S. Government Tried To Replace Migrant Farmworkers With High Schoolers
In 1964, a program that brought migrant Mexican laborers to the U.S. ended. So the U.S. recruited American students to pick crops instead. When they saw their living conditions, strikes ensued.

RIP Lalo Shifrin, 93. He composed so much more than the original Mission: Impossible theme, but that was pretty cool though.

I'm attending a conference at an oceanfront hotel in Myrtle Beach, where I last stayed in 2018. Compared to last time, the beach is much less crowded. Canadians are typically a big tourist contingent here and I am wondering if their boycott is the reason.

How long did it take to unlace that fly when one urgently needed a bathroom break? I don't even like messing with button-fly pants much less laced ones.
all i want is to kick someone in half.

Take a big marker and write “DON’T TAKE POLITICAL ADVICE FROM YOUR POLITICAL OPPONENTS” on a trash can and put all stories of this nature in it.
This has to be one of the weirdest articles I've read in a while. It opens by chastising far left Democrats for not focusing on "bread and butter" issues and then chastises @aoc.bsky.social for campaigning on universal healthcare.

Democrats are letting the far-left take them out of the running for 2028
Hating on Trump and creating as much self-serving publicity as possible are neither policies nor strategies.

I am scheduled to attend a technical conference in Chicago in April. Given the turmoil at the FAA, I was already mentally debating whether to drive 830 miles each way or fly. This clinches my decision to drive. (TBH, I kind of enjoy driving anyway.)
Meanwhile, at that same moment...

When he was in the Navy, Jimmy Carter’s submarine was once docked in Bermuda. Some British officers invited only the white crew members to a cocktail party or something like that, and Carter said that if the crewmen of color weren’t invited then nobody was going. This was in the 1950s.

When Jim Banner recruited me for the updated Presidential Misconduct collection, I was busy finishing Fault Lines and joked that I could only handle a light load, so I’d do Carter.

But I found he was, if anything, *too* ethical, bending over backward to be transparent. Seems a world away from us.

When a partial meltdown of Ontario's Chalk River Nuclear Power Plant occurred in 1952, one of the 150 Americans brought in to help dismantle the parts of the reactor was Jimmy Carter.
He was lowered into the reactor in 90 second shifts, which was enough time to remove one bolt.

My primary thought on the election, after a week to reflect: We have to face up to some hard, uncomfortable truths about who we are. But we also have the opportunity to run headlong towards the nobility that accrues to to those who commit themselves to making us better. Thread:
