It may be fiction, but I heard it was canceled because it had too many jokes. The network felt the audience lacked the attention span to handle it. In the days before live replay and internet video, they may have been right. I recorded all the episodes on VHS and watched them periodically for years.

They were going to redevelop the property into an urban Walmart with a parking garage not long after the Bombers left. If memory serves, the hitch was that it's prone to flooding. So, there it sits.

My grandmother's last car was a 1956 Buick that she drove until her passing in 1975. To start Buicks of that era, you turned the ignition on, then pressed the accelerator to the floor to engage the starter. So, maybe flooring a car at startup was a thing? youtube.com/shorts/W9oob...

We never had President McGovern, but I take solace in the fact that President Hoover did indeed suck.

The Ioniq 6 is a splendid vehicle. A low-mileage, manufacturer-certified BMW i3 or Mercedes EQE sedan might also fit the bill. I bought a CPO '22 Mercedes EQS 450+ about 15 months ago and love it, but it's probably too big for your tastes. Agree with other commenters that you shouldn't buy new.

You beat me to commenting about the MAHA types (particularly HHS Secretary Swims In Sewage) performing medical experiments on all of us here.

Paul Krugman previously raised the question of what happens to TIPS if they start to fudge the inflation numbers. Fake economic statistics are definitely part of the authoritarian playbook. paulkrugman.substack.com/p/the-real-t...

There's a long, shameful history of coastal African-Americans being exploited in South Carolina and Georgia.

The photo is from 1912, prior to the Great Depression, but you make a good point since child labor was still legal until 1938. But, white kids did apparently stop working to go to school. Black kids, particularly in coastal SC, probably didn't. Seems like that would make black kids more productive.

I live in the Deep South surrounded by these sorts of dipshits. Trust me, when it's time to vote they'll say "something something AOC Green New Deal socialism welfare" and continue to support the fascists. Sadly, I have concluded that outreach to the older Fox News-poisoned cohort is hopeless.

As a native (white) South Carolinian, I am frankly surprised that they were using white children instead of black ones. I found some information on the photo on Beaufort County's tourist website although this is a weird thing to for them to highlight:
