for anyone young enough not to remember -- YES everything smelled like shit. Every public restaurant reeked, every used car reeked, all used clothing reeked. Every piece of furniture or appliance that came out of a bar or restaurant was covered in a thick layer of tar and never stopped stinking.

When China Airlines 611 crashed as a result of a faulty pressure bulkhead repair, part of the evidence was that recovered parts had tar stains from years of smoke leaking through tiny (but growing) cracks because you were allowed to smoke on planes

Video of the One Billion Row Challenge stream is now up at youtu.be/tCY7p6dVAGE! We got down to 1.2s without any external dependencies, and it was a fun journey down lots of performance rabbit holes (only some of which panned out 😅). It is over 10h, but hopefully the chapters in the video help!
