I had a creative writing teacher in high school who once said "discard nothing"
maybe a piece doesn't work in its current form, but there are likely still good ideas, characters, or devices in there for use elsewhere. save your flops!

I had a Geology prof who always said “have strong opinions, loosely held”
Be passionate, assess alternatives with conviction, take sides. But don’t fall so in love with your opinions that you can’t change them with better data.

yesterday at a cafe i overheard a guy tell his friend that he will never go to therapy bc some dude on a podcast said "a lot of psychologists are themselves mentally ill" and "would you go to a gp who had the flu" and sometimes i think "you're entitled to your opinion" shouldn't apply to everyone
