Similar to steel, auto, ports, shipbuilding, care homes, hospitals, GP surgeries, veterinary services.

Dividends not taxed in the UK. Govts have fewer economic levers.
If the government wants economic growth it must bring essential industries into public ownership
Successive governments clobber households and small businesses by hiking interest rates to manage inflation, but don’t inconvenience corporations.

What has Yvette Cooper’s proscription of Palestine Action done to this country?

Beyond absurd. It’s extreme authoritarianism. These police should be arresting rapists & crooks, not neglecting those duties to spend time arresting citizens standing against genocide.

It undermines police and the law.

Following at least 10 votes last night, the Labour government pushed back on the attempts by the Lords, Tories, Lib Dems & Reform to water down the Employment Rights Bill.

Labour stood firm & rejected the amendments that would have weakened bans on exploitative zero hours contracts & day 1 rights.
The Employment Rights Bill is back in the Commons today to consider the amendments made in the Lords.

The voting is still ongoing and on to the 7th round...no idea how many more there might be.

So far the Labour government has voted to reject the Lords measures which watered down the bill.

In pursuit of profits, businesses ignore laws/safety. They object to consumer rights.

The so-called 'red tape' is someone's life. Left to itself capitalism devours all.

Say NO to profits before people.

Privatizations have created a rentier economy.

England's water companies privatized in 1989 for £6.1bn. Little shareholder investment since.

No new reservoirs, sewage dumped in rivers, poor infrastructure, customers ripped-off, £85.2bn extracted in dividends.

Why do govts cling to privatization.

Social housing vanished. 2m council homes sold. 40% ended-up with private landlords, increasingly corporations.

Housing seen as investment, high private rents, more poverty & need for benefits.
