Ezra Klein’s most recent column gives the game away: he talks about how horrified he was by Kirk’s assassination because he identifies with Kirk. Kirk, like Klein, talked for a living. So even if they had different policy positions, to some degree, Klein sees himself in Kirk.

One of my beliefs is that every school should have a working farm attached so kids can learn that farming sucks and is really hard
it’s great and cool and fun to grow food but “grow your own food” as a response to a crisis when literally the entirety of civilization has revolved around the provision of food will never not make me think less of you

one thing I've become very convinced of is the need for the civil service to do waaayyyy more propaganda. like you should know about how NOAA makes the weather app on your phone work. you should know that Uncle Sam runs GPS. you should know how impressive the US census data collection effort is, etc
