10 years ago Mark Carney warned about the "existential threat" posed by climate catastrophe and the need to move from fossil fuel burning.
Now he is using Stephen Harper's lines about becoming an "energy super power."
This is a powerful analysis on the MOU.

The Pipeline MOU is a Tragic Failure of Vision
At best, Mark Carney capitulated to Danielle Smith's backward view of the future. At worst, the Prime Minister shares that view

Giving Alberta an exemption to the Clean Electricity Standard means the policy is DOA.

There’s no way SK isn’t asking for the same thing, as they restart coal plants.

One Canadian economy? Nope. Likely scenario is no electricity regs at all, meaning we’re back to Harper-era policy.

All of the ICE activity is terrible but this is truly abhorrent!

So few Americans have insight into how the USA is on stolen land. Of course, the whitest of them (aka immigrants or colonizers) are always the ones telling people to “go back to where you came from” completely oblivious to the irony.

Lets face it, this is a good day for oil companies, businesses, and those in the oil sector. Its a bad day for the environment and for reconciliation with Indigenous nations whose lands this thing will go over. As Blanchet stated, this is the official end of Canada's climate commitments.

Let’s be clear on this: Danielle Smith is ripping up the Charter of Rights & Freedoms to take away rights from the most vulnerable people in Alberta. And she’s doing it to protect herself from the militant wing of her own party, nothing more. Hope it’s all she’s ever remembered for in the long run

You can’t reboot the planet if you crash it
What Gates is putting forward aren’t legitimate arguments that can be made in good faith. They are shopworn fossil fuel industry talking points.

“Maybe we shouldn’t have provoked him…”

Doing the bare minimum to stand up to a bully criminal isn’t “provoking him.” It’s refusing to be a complete and total coward.

Like all bullies, he’s counting on your fear, and too many have accommodated him.
And I wish media would quit saying that maybe we shouldn't have provoked him. He was ALWAYS going to do stupid shit. If not this, then something else would have set him off.

This is not hyperbole or fearmongering.

Just the start.

Many media outlets hid the full truth of Trump -- his background in organized crime, his Epstein ties -- out of fear, only to be obliterated by him in the end. Had they not self-censored then, they might not be state-censored now. When you hide the truth, you face the consequences.

Absolutely this! ⤵️
These transgender laws affect a very small & vulnerable minority. To focus persecutory legislation on a small small group that truly needs support is terribly injurious, signalling a hateful wish to do harm. Because government isn't ignorant- it has resources to know better- it's doing evil.
The use of the notwithstanding clause in Alberta should be a line in the sand for everyone.

Wielding such immense constitutional power to preemptively strip Charter rights from one of our most vulnerable minorities is a dangerous and cynical act.

Rights aren't a buffet you can pick from.

Sadly, these were my first thoughts as well. I’d never heard of Charlie Kirk before today but it’s a heck of a distraction from Epstein and likely to fan the flames of MAGA extremism.
How do we know Trump didn’t order Kirk’s assassination as a distraction from Epstein — and a tactic to start the civil unrest he needs to declare Martial Law and delay the 2026 midterms?
