I am dead
Dreamed I got a chastising message at work that said, “You should know the names of all the Muppets,” and someone stuck up for me, saying, “I don’t think this one has a name,” and they attached a picture of like a white Gonzo with no eyes

Anytime a “super 8” video shows up in a nostalgia show (e.g. Mad Men), the frame rate drop, jerky handheld movements, and image degradation seldom look natural enough to not feel a little like an instagram filter. They were doing the best they could, I know

This person thinks about popular music like I do, which is: How can I change this song into a jingle
Red Lobster never released a commercial with a jingle that went “Shrimply having a wonderful Fishmastime.” That’s why they went bankrupt.

Mad Men formatting fiasco reveals that crew members were the ones actually smoking Sally Draper’s cigarettes and I feel relieved

Thinking about how Big Country’s biggest (only?) hit is called “Big Country” and encouraging other bands to write eponymously-named songs. Rule: The song can’t simply be “We are the Masters At Work” or whatever, you have to be metaphoric w it

I’ve named my fists mac and cheese bc they comfort you on a cold day
I've named my fists Hall and Oates because whoa-oh here they come, watch out boy, they'll chew you up
I named my fists Pride and Prejudice, because it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of two fists must be in want of whupping ass

In a way it’s ridiculous that there have been so many James Bond parodies when the originals are already so ridiculous as to render the exercise moot

I watched this movie recently and as ridiculous as it was it also somehow felt prescient in its ridiculousness
I put on the old Running Man movie with Arnold. I knew it was bad. I forgot exactly HOW bad.

Also…it has Jesse Ventura with hair. I didn’t recognize him at first.

The deep fake stuff is eery though.

SUCH a good thread. Reposting for my own reference and future reference.
A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.

If there’s one word I think of to describe Bob Dylan, it’s definitely “freewheelin’”

I usually count the first album I asked for and received for birthday/xmas (which are practically the same thing for me): INXS - Kick
I never know what counts in those "first record you ever bought" things because there's a very blurry line between "parents buy you records for birthday/Xmas", "pester mum to buy you record while you're with her at the shops" and "mum gives you money but you spend it while at the shops with her".
