In interviews w/ Black mediamakers for my forthcoming book the observation that “woke” was a new stand-in/scare word for “communist” came up a lot. I began those interviews in Jan 2021. This piece is important AND we have to acknowledge how much of the play book was already in play before Jan 2025.
Over the last 10 months, the federal government has cracked down on political expression with a persistence and viciousness reminiscent of some of the darkest periods of U.S. history. Welcome to the Third Red Scare.

The imaginary Republican couple in Chuck’s head have more political sway than the entire Democratic base.
MSNBC reported Schumer's office felt that the longer that shutdown went on, the more likely it was that people would start to blame the Dems.
My kingdom for Democrats that don't govern out of fear. I've said it before and I'll say it again: The American people are far braver than their reps.

Government is shut down. Chaos in airports. 42 million going hungry. 24 million face skyrocketing healthcare costs. Economy in turmoil. And the president of the United States is in the Fox broadcast booth calling plays for a football game.

Admittedly not the point, but:
Why, as a society, do we allow these people to accumulate so much wealth and power when they aren't even capable of selecting a reasonable looking hair style?

i love seeing how freaked out genocidal billionaires get about Zohran. the truth is that Zohran won because regular people are sick of monsters like Alex Karp getting rich off the backs of theirs and others suffering.

This. Actually all attempts to explain a candidate's appeal in broad terms, including those based on polling, are fictional.

He doesn't act on it because Twitter, like all omnibus social media platforms, subsidize right-wing media activists by providing them free distribution.
Right-leaning platforms like Twitter and Facebook provide even further subsidy through favorable algorithms and loose content moderation.

Somehow Ben Shapiro arrives at the correct conclusion about Twitter before nearly all elected Democrats (even if he doesn't act on that conclusion)
Ben Shapiro tells Megyn Kelly that to avoid vile extremists like Nick Fuentes “the first thing people need to do is turn off X, which is poisoning brains and making people think not true things.” Yet, Shapiro continues to post there, often multiple times a day. youtu.be/tprng5mObQg?...
