I don't see how facial recognition technology would have stopped far-right thugs from burning asylum seekers' tents and terrorizing libraries earlier this year. Drew Harris could have stopped them, but chose not to. It's not new technology that we need.

I attended a Joint Policing Committee meeting for Dublin north central area back in May (?). The superintendents present were asked what plans they had to deal with the far right, who were terrorising East Wall at the time. They had no plans and seemed to find the question amusing.

I think we’ve learned an important lesson today, which is: If you ever run a media company, do not ever create a situation where your poetry editor might have cause to write a resignation letter, because it will scorch you from the face of the earth.
