Exactly this. It’s generation-spanning damage
It will take years to repair the damage that Trump and Musk have done in less than two weeks. And it’s going to take a lot of hard work to make sure we even get the chance.

Seen on my news and academic feeds today:

"This is highly illegal!"
"Where are the courts?"
"Someone needs to arrest him/them!"
"The military needs to oust them!"
"WHERE ARE THE DEMS?"

This is the denial stage of grief. None of the above institutions are coming to save us.

We are all we've got.

Transracial adoption as a virtue signal for how progressive one’s family is…

…we also know the first time many of us encounter racism is within the family.
Transracial adoption is the ultimate diversity hire. Just like adoption has been used as a racist tool to control, erase and oppress, it has also been used to appear including and non-racist. The transracial adoptee performs the role of the token diversity hire, whilst being forced to assimilate.

The waves of feelings that wash over you reading this when home is here and over there.
Someone just reminded me that I wrote this story in 2022:

"This new season should be ushering in a new world, but instead it’s only the old one, drained of its power and beauty—the radio is warning of an unseasonal snowstorm later that night. All planes would be grounded, possibly for days."

Ask yourself what you’d think about another country if a new regime quickly prohibited all government agencies from communicating with the public, then began deleting data from government websites that it deemed unacceptable.
FYI if you are looking for the Dec. 2024 AFFHT-0007 dataset from the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (which has apparently been deleted by the Trump administration) I've got the nationwide backup on my hard drive.

From 1977-2007, 30,000 kids from Guatemala were spirited away and adopted internationally. Human rights groups have documented corruption so systemic, it’s now being recognized as “legalized theft.”

If you are defending privacy and sealed records in adoption practices, this is what you stand for.

My memoir, I Would Meet You Anywhere, came out last year with @ohiostatepress.bsky.social. It’s about being biracial, adopted, and Japanese American, about identity, family, reproductive stigma and more.
