None of the successful single-player games this year is designed with 'attention economy war' either. Neither Clair Obscur, Kingdoms Come, nor Silent Hill f has intrusive nag lines or is focused on constant dopamine hits. Quite contrary - in all those games, the story is quite slow-paced.

BG3 is the proof one can point back to that proves a lotta AAA myths wrong. Once in a lifetime game yes, but it provides a model for how to do complicated game play in an accessible manner. It's a proper CRPG and sold A LOT. Just not CoD a lot, and I'm afraid that's why it's not copied more.

rimworld is also a great example, alongside CKIII and EU
I'm just thinking of basically every Paradox and FromSoft game which tend to share a similar "Fuck you, you'll figure it out if you care enough" ethos that people respond to.

I really do respect and understand this logic but you have to trust you can get your players to pay attention through the merits of your storytelling. Deltarune does. Slay the Princess does
You wanna know why we're having nag line discourse in 2025? Because developers know we're fighting an attention economy war we'll lose no matter what. Players don't read, have TikTok open next to them, god forbid we are scared you miss something and then blame us for not giving you all the info.

putting in Peter Hogsex as SecDef was one of the dumbest choices he could've made from a strategic standpoint. you want someone who can butter up the generals to do your plans.

this is a quiet dig at special forces / troops under jsoc. U.S. special forces traditionally have relaxed grooming standards. the “2A guy with a well groomed, hipstery beard” is basically bc of this kind of person. one has to wonder whether hegseth feels respected — or threatened — by this group
