I do genuinely believe that the way entertainment journalists wrote opinion pieces about sexualized characters in the 2010s did have a strong impact on the waves of internet censorship today. It's not that conservative outlooks needed an excuse, but that it conditioned the left to not defend sex.

if you don't care about sex workers or sellers of kinky porn getting arbitrarily banned from using money then maybe you will care about the International Criminal Court being banned from using money

this shit needs to be dismantled yesterday

I think the last time I read this was in 2013 on some scanlation site. So weird seeing it without jpeg crunch

in a world where subscriptions for stuff that used to be free or local are becoming the norm and we are treated like we HAVE to pay rent to some fuckass company to run shit on “the cloud” instead of owning our hardware or media or whatever my resolution for 2026 is to not do that as much as possible

THREAD STARTS. PLEASE READ EVERYTHING. Apologies for politics.

I have returned to sound the Gjallahorn. Ragnarok is coming, and both Republicans and Democrats seek to destroy the internet just to "protect the kids" or "fight Big Tech."

A BUNCH of stuff I scanned for games or took screenshots of are all over the internet when you search for them. I'll be watching a youtube video and get flashbanged by a game cover for a game I bought at a flea market 20ys ago lol
Biggest impact on the Internet?

I made a mockup depicting Discord if it was made in 2005 in January 2023. Initially I put it to a subreddit, and the next thing I knew it had already gone places, eventually reaching @compaesthetics.bsky.social on Twitter. I then showed myself there, rest is history.
'What was your biggest impact on the Internet?'

I'm the reason We Are Number One got famous.

I am genuinely worried at the amount of performative puritanism has been spurred by Horses.

(Again, Horses contains nothing that wouldn't fly in an M-rated movie)

A whole lot of people echoing variants of 'Maybe free speech has been too free lately'.
Annoyed that the "Wow how did Rance make it on steam but Horses got banned?" discussion point quickly pivoted to "We need to ban Rance" instead of "Valves internal guidelines for what is or isn't allowed is nonsensical"

one thing that drives me crazy about this whole thing is that OpenAI would love nothing _more_ than “regulations”. Regulatory capture is a thing!

Given GOG has always been about selling old games that work on modern systems, they never made much money. Them mentioning supporting indies has my attention, as there is, uh, instability in the platforms for those atm to say the least. GOG is like bandcamp and just as old. it'll live on forever imo
Michał Kiciński, one of the co-founders of CD PROJEKT, and the co-founder of GOG, has acquired GOG from CD PROJEKT
