Unreported road casualties greatly outnumber those reported to the police. For every person reported seriously injured in a crash, 3 more go unreported in Britain.

2 years of default urban/village 20mph in Wales has resulted in over 1,000 fewer killed or injured. The data shows a 25% reduction in casualties on the 20/30mph roads. Drivers gain with damage risk, crashes and premiums down. Well done Wales. bit.ly/4ppl030

Vision Zero plans need to include measures to reduce car use. Delivering the Safe System on its own is not enough; cities also need to reduce driving. The latest AVZ briefing highlights recent research showing that when car use falls casualties fall too.

London needs speeding enforcement to focus more on 20 and 30mph roads. 92% of London's KSIs occur on 20 and 30mph roads but only 58% of its speed enforcement does. If it was proportionate, there would be another 280,000 speeding offences detected on these roads.

It’s astonishing Wimbledon insists on deploying large SUVs in our crowded capital despite excellent public transport and mounting evidence of the danger to children. Why can't guests use more normal sized cars and/or the tube like most Londoners? #carspreading

If disqualified and dangerous drivers are to be spared prison (as new Independent Sentencing Review proposes), punishment should include longer bans, vehicles confiscated and electronic tags (to ensure they are not driving whilst disqualified).

Preliminary findings of research from SUV Alliance finds that "...that heavier cars are more likely to be involved in fatal collisions and average car weight in the UK is increasing, which may lead to a rise in fatal collisions if the trend continues."

Demand more police enforcement on London's roads. MOPAC is consulting on a draft police & crime plan for London (2025 to 2029). Ask for the plan to contain far more about crime on London's roads.

The earliest of early days but signs from NYC that reducing traffic volumes also reduces road casualties - fits with earlier research.

To succeed #VisionZero policies likely also need Road User Charging esp. in places with good public transport alternatives.

Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether she has made a recent assessment of the potential merits of requiring electric bike users to (a) have a number plate and (b) be insured. Answer: The Government has no intention of requiring cyclists, including those who ride Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycles, to display number plates or to have insurance. This would require a national registration scheme for all cycles which would be complex and expensive to design and administer. It would also be likely to lead to a significant reduction in the number of people cycling, which would have negative health and environmental consequences. The Government believes that insurance for cycling should remain a matter of personal choice. Cyclists who are not insured are liable for the consequences of their actions should these result in injury or damages to others.

It's interesting to review and compare how traffic levels have changed in various London boroughs since 1993. Stats show Kingston has seen a modest drop, Richmond a bigger drop of around 10%, Wandsworth had a bigger drop still, but Bromley saw a significant increase.
